HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives wish 
3to congratulate Saint George Antiochian Orthodox Church of 
4Cicero on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of its 
5founding; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Saint George Antiochian Orthodox Church has been 
7a pillar in the Chicago region for over 60 years, having been 
8established in 1963 on the west side of Chicago in 1963, in Oak 
9Park in 1966, and in Cicero in 1984; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, Saint George Antiochian Orthodox Church, as the 
11Shrine of the Miraculous Weeping Icon, has brought joy and 
12hope for many Orthodox Christians, including visitors from all 
13over the world traveling to visit the Miraculous Weeping Icon; 
14and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, Saint George Antiochian Orthodox Church, through 
16dozens of ministries and programs,  serves approximately 1,000 
17families scattered across the Chicagoland area that have 
18overcome tragedy and adversity and continue to face many 
19challenges; and
  
 
20    WHEREAS, Saint George Antiochian Orthodox Church has taken 
21a leadership role among churches and organizations for

1decades, and now, is looking to the future to continue its 
2legacy of growth; and
  
 
3    WHEREAS, The Arab-American Christian community has 
4contributed to the Chicago region for over 150 years; 
5therefore, be it
  
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
7HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
8we congratulate Saint George Antiochian Orthodox Church of 
9Cicero on the 60th anniversary of its founding, and we wish 
10them many more wonderful years; and be it further
  
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
12presented to Saint George Antiochian Orthodox Church as a 
13symbol of our respect and esteem.
