| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to recognize the Belleville Black Knights | ||||||
| 4 | Drum & Bugle Corps on the occasion of celebrating its 70th | ||||||
| 5 | anniversary; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, The Belleville Black Knights Drum & Bugle Corps | ||||||
| 7 | was organized by Forrest T. Creson and Vernon Poole in | ||||||
| 8 | Belleville in 1953; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, The Belleville Black Knights Drum & Bugle Corps | ||||||
| 10 | represented the City of Belleville and the State of Illinois | ||||||
| 11 | in performances and competitions throughout the United States | ||||||
| 12 | and Canada; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, From 1953 through 1990, the Belleville Black | ||||||
| 14 | Knights Drum & Bugle Corps provided an opportunity for youth | ||||||
| 15 | between the ages of 12 to 21 throughout Southern Illinois to | ||||||
| 16 | learn the principles of music and visual performance, | ||||||
| 17 | responsibility, self-discipline, and comradery; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, The Belleville Black Knights Drum & Bugle Corps | ||||||
| 19 | successfully won five national championships and 24 state | ||||||
| 20 | championships and were finalists in 25 national championships; | ||||||
| 21 | and
| ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, The Belleville Black Knights Drum & Bugle Corps | ||||||
| 2 | will celebrate its 70th anniversary with a reunion to be held | ||||||
| 3 | at the Catholic War Veterans Post 370 located in Belleville on | ||||||
| 4 | August 26, 2023, with the event featuring guest speaker Major | ||||||
| 5 | General Jeffrey T. Pennington of the U.S. Air Force, a member | ||||||
| 6 | of the Black Knights in the 1970s, and entertainment being | ||||||
| 7 | provided by the Ainad Shrine Drum & Bugle Corps and The Ancient & | ||||||
| 8 | Honorable Drummers of the Black
Knights; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 9 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 10 | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 11 | we recognize the Belleville Black Knights Drum & Bugle Corps | ||||||
| 12 | on celebrating its 70th anniversary; and be it further
| ||||||
| 13 | RESOLVED, That we commend all members of the Belleville | ||||||
| 14 | Black Knights Drum & Bugle Corps for their dedication and hard | ||||||
| 15 | work; and be it further
| ||||||
| 16 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 17 | presented to the Belleville Black Knights Drum & Bugle Corps | ||||||
| 18 | as an expression of our esteem and respect.
