HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Airsman-Hires Funeral 
4Homes on the occasion of celebrating 50 years of business; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, The company that became Airsman-Hires Funeral 
6Homes was started by Terry and Mary Beth Airsman after they 
7purchased the original Wolfe-Airsman Funeral Home in Roodhouse 
8and the Dawdy-Wolf-Airsman Funeral Home in White Hall, both 
9located in Greene County, in the 1970s; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, Meanwhile, the Hires Funeral Home was owned and 
11operated by Jess and Niela Hires in Carrollton, also located 
12in Greene County; and
  
 
13    WHEREAS, Airsman-Hires Funeral Homes was formed by Terry 
14Airsman and Jess Hires in order to minimize costs  and improve 
15efficiency on March 1, 1979; and
  
 
16    WHEREAS, In 1980, Terry Airsman and Jess Hires proceeded 
17to buy the former Mehl Funeral Home in Carrollton, the Neece 
18Funeral Homes in Franklin and Waverly, and the Stults-Neece 
19Funeral Home in Palmyra; and
  
 
20    WHEREAS, In 1981, Airsman-Hires Funeral Homes purchased

1the Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville from Harlan 
2Williamson, and the Airsman family moved to Jacksonville to 
3operate it; and
  
 
4    WHEREAS, Airsman-Hires Funeral Homes additionally expanded 
5to include the Skinner Funeral Home in Griggsville in 1986, 
6the Lummis Funeral Home in Pittsfield in 1993, the Coonrod 
7Funeral Home in Winchester in 1994, and the Sager Funeral Home 
8in Beardstown in 2007; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, While Jess Hires retired in 1992, Airsman-Hires 
10Funeral Homes remains family-owned and operated today under 
11the guidance of Terry and Mary Beth Airsman and  their daughter 
12and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Greg May, with Denton Coonrod 
13and Wyatt and Trisha Sager still providing funeral service in 
14their respective communities; therefore, be it
  
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
16HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
17we congratulate Airsman-Hires Funeral Homes on celebrating 50 
18years of business, and we wish the company continued success 
19in the years to come; and be it further
  
 
20    RESOLVED, That we congratulate the Airsman and Hires 
21families for their company's remarkable growth and ongoing 
22legacy; and be it further
