HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
  
2    WHEREAS, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated was 
3founded in 1911 at Howard University
and became the first 
4international fraternal organization to be founded at a 
5historically black
college; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Omega Psi Phi's mission is to uplift the 
7community through outreach programs,
health initiatives, 
8scholarship funds, mentorship programs, educational programs, 
9and more; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, The Sigma Omega Chapter of Omega Psi Phi 
11Fraternity, Incorporated was founded
in 1921 in Chicago and 
12consisted of Omega men that came to Chicago to pursue post

13graduate degrees; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, The Sigma Omega Chapter upholds the values of 
15Omega Psi Phi through
community outreach and philanthropy, 
16including involved programming, through their signature Mardi

17Gras event to raise funds for scholarships, and through the 
18Sigma Omega Foundation; and
  
 
19    WHEREAS, On September 16, 2023, the Sigma Omega Chapter 
20will hold their centennial gala
and bring together members to 
21celebrate the impact that the chapter has had on the City of

1Chicago and Omega Psi Phi, recognize those that have made a 
2difference, and look ahead to the
future; therefore, be it
  
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
4HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
5we declare September 16, 2023 as Sigma Omega Chapter of Omega 
6Psi Phi
Fraternity, Incorporated Day in the State of Illinois 
7and encourage all residents to come together to recognize the 
8fraternity's ongoing service; and be it further
  
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
10presented to the Sigma Omega Chapter of Omega Psi Phi

11Fraternity, Incorporated as a symbol of our respect and 
12esteem.
