HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Milestone, Inc. on the occasion of its 50th anniversary; and

WHEREAS, Founded by James P. Hamilton in 1973, Milestone is a private, nonprofit organization that has served intellectually and developmentally disabled adults throughout its existence; and

WHEREAS, In 1976, Milestone created the first residential care program for intellectually and developmentally disabled adults in Illinois; and

WHEREAS, In 1979 and 1981, Milestone created housing opportunities, including apartments, for physically, intellectually, and developmentally disabled adults that focused on comfortable, home-like atmospheres and acted as a model for future developments to accommodate this previously unserved and underserved population; and

WHEREAS, In 1992, Milestone opened Milestone Industries, allowing individuals to develop meaningful work and living skills through training offered at a sheltered workshop and vocational center; and

WHEREAS, In 1999, Milestone opened the first ever dental facility in the United States that was devoted to serving children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities; and

WHEREAS, Milestone leadership and staff remain committed to its mission that everyone has the right to be treated with respect, to participate in community life, to develop and exercise personal competence, to have family and friends, and to make decisions in their lives; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Milestone, Inc. on its 50th anniversary, and we thank the organization for its continued devotion to providing living skills, safety, and leisure activities to the individuals it serves; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Milestone as an expression of our esteem and respect.
