HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Henry
4Bernard Geise of Quincy, formerly of Estero, Florida, who
5passed away on December 1, 2023; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Henry Geise was born to Bernard Henry and Violet
7Marie (Wabel) Geise in Quincy on April 3, 1936; he attended St.
8Boniface Grade School and graduated from Christian Brothers
9High School in 1954; he graduated with a degree in accounting
10from Quincy College in 1959 and with a Juris Doctor from the
11University of Illinois in 1963; he served in the U.S. Army
12Reserves and spent six months in active duty at Fort Leonard
13Wood, Missouri, receiving an honorable discharge; he married
14Jill (Groves) at Quincy College Chapel on August 6, 1960; and
 
15    WHEREAS, After his college graduation, Henry Geise worked
16for Lybrand, Ross Brothers, and Montgomery; after graduating
17from Law school, he moved back to Quincy and joined his
18father-in-law's law practice, retiring from private practice
19after nearly 60 years; he also taught business law classes in
20the evenings at Quincy College in his earlier years; in
21addition, he was the owner and president of the Maid Rite
22Sandwich Shop and the former Maid Rite East Sandwich Shop; and

1    WHEREAS, Henry Geise was appointed as the Quincy City
2Attorney, a position he held for many years; he also acted as
3the emcee at the Beaux Arts Ball; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Henry Geise attended Our Lady of Light Catholic
5Church in Fort Myers, Florida and the Church of St. Peter in
6Quincy; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Henry Geise had a calm demeanor and a wonderful
8sense of humor; he loved the outdoors, spending countless
9hours working on projects and fishing at his cabin, golfing,
10and playing cards; his family was everything to him, and he
11spent much treasured time with them, especially during family
12trips to Florida, Colorado, and the Lake of the Ozarks; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Henry Geise was preceded in death by his parents;
14his brothers-in-law, Rich Hilgenbrink and Don Talken; and his
15nephew, Mark Talken; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Henry Geise is survived by his wife; his
17children, Michael Geise and Lisa (Brian) Knuffman; his
18grandchildren, Taylor (fiance, Payton Welch) Knuffman and
19Caiden (significant other, Payten Rice) Geise; his bonus
20granddaughter, Destiny Aden; his sisters, Judy Talken, Linda
21Hilgenbrink, and Debbie (Robert) Steeples; and his several
22nieces and nephews along with their spouses and children;

1therefore, be it
 
2    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
3HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
4we mourn the passing of Henry Bernard Geise and extend our
5sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
6and loved him; and be it further
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8presented to the family of Henry Geise as an expression of our
9deepest sympathy.
