HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate the Burgener Family for 
4being nominated by the Illinois Pork Producers as the 2024 
5Pork Family of the Year; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The Burgener farm was founded in 1968 in Moweaqua 
7by Charles and Carole Burgener, who started farming 500 acres 
8of corn, soybeans, cattle, and hogs; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Charles and Carole Burgener had four sons, Brad, 
10Bret, Chad, and Chris, and each returned to the family farm 
11after college to help it grow to over 3,000 acres and more than 
12800 sows; and
 
13    WHEREAS, The Burgener Family has grown over the years with 
14many new members joining the family business and helping it 
15continue to thrive; and
 
16    WHEREAS, The Burgener Family is active in their community 
17as members of the First Christian Church in Moweaqua and the 
18Shelby County Pork Producers; they are also affiliated with 
19numerous other organizations promoting agriculture; and
 
20    WHEREAS, The Burgener Family has often donated pork to

1civic and charitable organizations, including the Central A&M 
2Foundation, the Central A&M Art Club, numerous community 
3raffles and benefits, and their local pregnancy crisis center; 
4therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
6HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
7we congratulate the Burgener Family for being nominated by the 
8Illinois Pork Producers as the 2024 Pork Family of the Year and 
9commend them for their long history of service to their 
10community and to the State of Illinois; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
12delivered to the Burgener Family as a symbol our respect and 
13esteem.
