| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of |
| 4 | | Alexandria Lynn Scott Pearson of Peoria, who passed away on |
| 5 | | March 17, 2024; and |
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Lynn Scott Pearson was born to Allen and Gabrella |
| 7 | | (McClelland) Scott in Bloomington on December 6, 1941; and |
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Lynn Scott Pearson worked as a materials handler |
| 9 | | at Caterpillar, Inc., retiring after 30 years of service in |
| 10 | | 1998; while at Caterpillar, she was very active with UAW Local |
| 11 | | 974, the CAP Committee, the Women Committee, and the Fair |
| 12 | | Practice Committee, and she presided as co-chair of Unit 4; |
| 13 | | and |
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Lynn Scott Pearson was elected to the Peoria |
| 15 | | County Board in 1984, where she served for 32 years before |
| 16 | | retiring in 2016; she served as vice-chair from 1992 to 1994 |
| 17 | | and 1996 to 1998; she became the first African American to be |
| 18 | | appointed chairperson, serving in that position from 1998 to |
| 19 | | 2000; during her tenure, she was a member of numerous |
| 20 | | committees and a trailblazer, championing many incentives that |
| 21 | | still benefit the region today; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Lynn Scott Pearson passionately fought on behalf |
| 2 | | of others throughout her life, joining the NAACP at a young age |
| 3 | | to bring change to the hiring practices at Sears & Roebucks and |
| 4 | | Cilco Electric Co. in Peoria; she was a lifelong member of the |
| 5 | | Peoria NAACP, serving on numerous committees and boards over |
| 6 | | the years; and |
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Lynn Scott Pearson represented her community |
| 8 | | through many other organizations, including serving as the |
| 9 | | chairperson of the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission and |
| 10 | | the Peoria County Democratic Women Committee, a delegate for |
| 11 | | the 1980 Democratic Convention, the co-chair of Peoria |
| 12 | | Community Against Violence, the board president of the |
| 13 | | Friendship House, a board member of the United Way, a charter |
| 14 | | member of the Peoria Red Hat Club and the A. Phillip Randolph |
| 15 | | Foundation, and a member of the Peoria African American Hall |
| 16 | | of Fame and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program; she became a |
| 17 | | member of the Police and Fire Commission on June 28, 2005, |
| 18 | | serving as chairperson from 2008 and 2022 and vice-chair until |
| 19 | | December 2023; and |
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Lynn Scott Pearson was a lifelong member of Ward |
| 21 | | Chapel AME Church, where she was one of only two women to serve |
| 22 | | as trustee; she was also chair of the Social Action |
| 23 | | Commission, where she organized the candidate forum, |
| 24 | | registered voters, and kept the congregation informed on |
|

| 1 | | issues affecting their community; and |
| 2 | | WHEREAS, Lynn Scott Pearson was the recipient of many |
| 3 | | accolades, including the Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative |
| 4 | | Service Leadership Award in 2017; and |
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Lynn Scott Pearson enjoyed traveling, reading, |
| 6 | | caring for her family, listening to music, attending social |
| 7 | | gatherings, eagle watching, and pairing good food with good |
| 8 | | conversation; and |
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Lynn Scott Pearson was a true caregiver, serving |
| 10 | | her family, friends, church, and community, and served as a |
| 11 | | mentor to many women; she will be remembered as a champion for |
| 12 | | female empowerment in politics and civic affairs; and |
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Lynn Scott Pearson was preceded in death by her |
| 14 | | parents; her son, Scott Darell Pearson; and her sisters, Karen |
| 15 | | Scott and Betty Welch; and |
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Lynn Scott Pearson is survived by her sons, Allen |
| 17 | | Pearson Sr. and Jay (Ja'nice) Pearson; her grandchildren, |
| 18 | | Ciera (Kevin Syrovy) Wallace, Nevaeh (DeMarcus Stephenson) |
| 19 | | Pearson, Allen Pearson Jr., Brianne Pearson, Nikia Pearson, |
| 20 | | Jamara (Christian) Pearson-Lloyd, Caleb (Hallaha Powers) |
| 21 | | Pearson, Christiaan Pearson, and Deven Pearson; her seven |

| 8 | | we mourn the passing of Alexandria Lynn Scott Pearson and |
