2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Operative Plasterers' & | ||||||
4 | Cement Masons' International Association (OPCMIA) Local 90 on | ||||||
5 | the occasion of its 125th anniversary; and | ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, OPCMIA of the United States and Canada is known | ||||||
7 | as the oldest building and construction trades union in the | ||||||
8 | United States, building safely and skillfully while ensuring | ||||||
9 | the production of quality private, state, and federally-funded | ||||||
10 | projects, including the Rebuild Illinois program; and | ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, On May 5, 1899, OPCMIA Local 90 was established | ||||||
12 | in East St. Louis with the objective to enhance the standard of | ||||||
13 | living, wages, working conditions, and job security; in the | ||||||
14 | subsequent years, the organization effectively served the | ||||||
15 | purpose for which it was founded, improving the future of its | ||||||
16 | members, thus providing inspiration for cement masons, | ||||||
17 | plasterers, and fireproofers in other parts of the country; | ||||||
18 | and | ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, OPCMIA Local 90 has been a leader in the | ||||||
20 | construction industry for more than a century, with the | ||||||
21 | organization currently representing nearly 270 members in | ||||||
22 | southwestern Illinois who are trained in the industry's latest |

1 | cement finishing, plastering, fireproofing, and safety | ||||||
2 | standards; the organization covers 10 full counties in | ||||||
3 | Illinois, providing the safest and most productive workforce | ||||||
4 | in the Metro East area; and | ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Through persistence and relentless pursuit of a | ||||||
6 | higher standard of living and better benefits and conditions, | ||||||
7 | OPCMIA Local 90 has endured and overcome a great deal in its | ||||||
8 | 125-year history, permitting today's members to enjoy a safe | ||||||
9 | workplace, an excellent hourly wage, superior health and | ||||||
10 | welfare benefits, and a generous pension; therefore, be it | ||||||
11 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
12 | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
13 | we congratulate Operative Plasterers' & Cement Masons' | ||||||
14 | International Association (OPCMIA) Local 90 on its 125th | ||||||
15 | anniversary; and be it further | ||||||
16 | RESOLVED, That we thank OPCMIA Local 90, its officers, and | ||||||
17 | its members for their invaluable work to make Illinois a | ||||||
18 | leading state in finishing techniques and systems for | ||||||
19 | generations to come; and be it further | ||||||
20 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
21 | presented to OPCMIA Local 90 and its officers as an expression | ||||||
22 | of our esteem and respect. |
