HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The dedication and leadership exhibited by
3Elizabeth Austin, Colleen Kahl, and the Pekin Community High
4School's Student Council Executive Board in championing the
5initiative to designate a state color for Illinois is
6commendable; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Their proactive engagement with local legislators
8and advocacy efforts reflect a deep commitment to civic
9participation and youth empowerment; and
 
10    WHEREAS, The establishment of a state color for Illinois
11will serve to foster a sense of pride and unity among its
12residents, celebrating the rich cultural heritage and
13diversity of the state; and
 
14    WHEREAS, The involvement of students from across Illinois
15in the decision-making process is paramount to ensuring
16representation and inclusivity in selecting a symbol that
17resonates with the collective identity of the state;
18therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
20HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
21we commend Elizabeth Austin, Collen Kahl, and the members of

1the Pekin Community High School's Student Council Executive
2Board for their exemplary leadership and advocacy in advancing
3the proposal to establish a state color for Illinois; and be it
4further
 
5    RESOLVED, That we encourage the Illinois State Board of
6Education's Student Advisory Council to consider researching
7the state's symbols to provide recommendations on a state
8color as part of its 2024/2025 project agenda; and be it
9further
 
10    RESOLVED, That we underscore the importance of ensuring an
11inclusive and participatory decision-making process by urging
12the Illinois State Board of Education's Student Advisory
13Council to actively engage students from diverse backgrounds
14and regions of the state when developing a recommendation for
15a state color; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That we emphasize the necessity of transparency
17and urge the Illinois State Board of Education's Student
18Advisory Council to seek public input from Illinoisans at
19every stage; and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That we commit to considering the Illinois State
21Board of Education's Student Advisory Council's recommendation
22for a state color and pledge to further collaborate with

1relevant stakeholders to establish it and later promote its
2recognition and significance across Illinois; and be it
3further
 
4    RESOLVED, That we encourage the Illinois State Board of
5Education's Student Advisory Council to update the Illinois
6State Legislature on the development of a recommendation for a
7state color, including insights gained from student engagement
8activities and any lessons they learned as part of the
9process; and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11delivered to the Illinois State Board of Education Student
12Advisory Council.
