| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The skilled trades keep our country running and | ||||||
| 3 | are essential in keeping our communities safe and healthy; | ||||||
| 4 | with the projected job growth and financial freedom provided, | ||||||
| 5 | the trades can provide an engaging and satisfying career path; | ||||||
| 6 | and | ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, While the trades have been a male-dominated field | ||||||
| 8 | historically, more and more women are starting to join the | ||||||
| 9 | industry, and progress has been made toward greater gender | ||||||
| 10 | equality in these industries; and | ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Tradeswomen have had a positive impact on the | ||||||
| 12 | local economy, the workforce, and community development in the | ||||||
| 13 | State of Illinois; and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, It is important to inspire young women and girls | ||||||
| 15 | to consider careers in skilled trades and to offer | ||||||
| 16 | opportunities for STEM education and vocational training | ||||||
| 17 | through DOL approved Apprenticeship Programs; and | ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Tradeswomen Take Over Springfield on May 16, 2023 | ||||||
| 19 | is the first annual Illinois Tradeswomen Recruitment and Lobby | ||||||
| 20 | Day, an event designed to shine a spotlight on women in trades | ||||||
| 21 | typically dominated by men, to celebrate women around our | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | State who work with tools, and to foster a sense of community | ||||||
| 2 | and solidarity among tradeswomen and the broader Illinois | ||||||
| 3 | community; and | ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, Tradeswomen Take Over Springfield is a day to | ||||||
| 5 | learn about the building and construction trades and the | ||||||
| 6 | various job opportunities available to all women across the | ||||||
| 7 | State of Illinois and is open to women of all ages and all | ||||||
| 8 | experience levels who are interested in strong/equitable pay, | ||||||
| 9 | apprentice training, and the support of a union contract; | ||||||
| 10 | therefore, be it | ||||||
| 11 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 12 | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 13 | we commend the women in trades who are breaking down barriers, | ||||||
| 14 | demonstrating exceptional skill and dedication, and serving as | ||||||
| 15 | role models for others; and be it further | ||||||
| 16 | RESOLVED, That we encourage ongoing efforts to support | ||||||
| 17 | tradeswomen, including future events, educational programs, | ||||||
| 18 | and initiatives that promote equal opportunities in union | ||||||
| 19 | construction trades; and be it further | ||||||
| 20 | RESOLVED, That we express support for skilled trades and | ||||||
| 21 | the need for a diverse and inclusive workforce to meet the | ||||||
| 22 | demands of a growing economy; and be it further | ||||||

| 1 | RESOLVED, That we encourage collaboration among | ||||||
| 2 | businesses, labor organizations, and educational institutions | ||||||
| 3 | to create pathways for women to enter and thrive in trades; and | ||||||
| 4 | be it further | ||||||
| 5 | RESOLVED, That we congratulate the organizers, sponsors, | ||||||
| 6 | and participants of the Tradeswomen Take Over Springfield | ||||||
| 7 | event for their efforts and contributions in making the event | ||||||
| 8 | a success; and be it further | ||||||
| 9 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 10 | presented to the Tradeswomen Take Over Springfield organizers | ||||||
| 11 | as a symbol of our respect and esteem. | ||||||
