| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Jaycee Park in Petersburg | ||||||
| 4 | on the completion of its renovations; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, In 1931, a section of land was offered to the City | ||||||
| 6 | of Petersburg for $1 with the intention it was to be used as a | ||||||
| 7 | public play and recreation ground, and over the decades that | ||||||
| 8 | followed, it was developed into a park; and | ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Jaycee Park has been maintained by the Menard | ||||||
| 10 | County Jaycees and the Town & Country Women's Club, with both | ||||||
| 11 | groups making donations of equipment and providing volunteer | ||||||
| 12 | efforts to the park throughout its existence; and | ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Despite improvements made over the years, Jaycee | ||||||
| 14 | Park was in need of major updates, leading the City of | ||||||
| 15 | Petersburg to partner with the Illinois Housing Development | ||||||
| 16 | Authority (IHDA) to develop a Community Revitalization | ||||||
| 17 | Strategy in the fall of 2020; as part of the development | ||||||
| 18 | process, a community needs assessment survey was conducted, | ||||||
| 19 | and the number one development need cited by survey | ||||||
| 20 | respondents was parks and recreation; and | ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, The City of Petersburg received the Open Space | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | Lands Acquisition and Development Program grant in 2023, and | ||||||
| 2 | with the help of this grant, local businesses, and the | ||||||
| 3 | community, a fundraising campaign was led by the Town & | ||||||
| 4 | Country Women's Club to revitalize Jaycee Park; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Jaycee Park's revitalization includes the | ||||||
| 6 | installation of all new fencing and gates to fully enclose the | ||||||
| 7 | park property, the construction of a concrete walking path | ||||||
| 8 | around the park's inside perimeter and a concrete basketball | ||||||
| 9 | court, the removal of existing playground equipment, the | ||||||
| 10 | purchase and installation of new, accessible playground | ||||||
| 11 | equipment, the building of new fitness equipment and sports | ||||||
| 12 | equipment, the installation of turf surfacing, and the | ||||||
| 13 | construction of a one-stall bathroom with a water fountain; | ||||||
| 14 | and | ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, To welcome the people of Petersburg to the new, | ||||||
| 16 | completed Jaycee Park, there will be a ribbon cutting on June | ||||||
| 17 | 2, 2024; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 18 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 19 | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 20 | we congratulate Jaycee Park in Petersburg on the completion of | ||||||
| 21 | its renovations. | ||||||
