HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, In the United States today, nearly 13.6 million 
3single parents are raising over 21 million children; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Rhiannon Graham, a pageant contestant who was 
5raised in a single-parent household and served as Miss Western 
6Illinois 2023 and Miss Capital City 2024, has dedicated 
7herself to community service opportunities that uplift and 
8support single-parent families through the platform of Single 
9But Not Alone; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Rhiannon Graham's advocacy for single-parent 
11families has included raising money for scholarships for 
12students from single-parent families and partnering with 
13advocacy organizations that support single-parent families, 
14including the American Association of Single Parents, Single 
15Parent Advocate, and Single Parent Living; and
 
16    WHEREAS, To raise awareness for single-parent families and 
17their unique challenges, Rhiannon Graham created the gold 
18tinsel Single But Not Alone Awareness Ribbon, the first 
19awareness ribbon to show recognition for single-parent 
20families; therefore, be it
 
21    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE

1HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
2we recognize the gold tinsel Single But Not Alone Awareness 
3Ribbon as a way to show support for single-parent families in 
4Illinois; and be it further
 
5    RESOLVED, That we recognize Rhiannon Graham for her 
6advocacy for single-parent families; and be it further
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
8presented to Rhiannon Graham as a symbol of our respect and 
9esteem.
