HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to recognize President James Earl "Jimmy"
4Carter Jr. on the occasion of his 100th birthday on October 1,
52024, and for his unwavering commitment to peace, democracy,
6and humanitarian efforts; and
 
7    WHEREAS, President Carter was born in Plains, Georgia on
8October 1, 1924; and
 
9    WHEREAS, President Carter served in the Georgia State
10Senate from 1963 to 1967, as the Governor of Georgia from 1970
11to 1975, and as the 39th President of the United States from
121977 to 1981; and
 
13    WHEREAS, While in office, President Carter established the
14U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Department of
15Education, and he created a national energy policy that
16included conservation, price control, and new technology; and
 
17    WHEREAS, After leaving office in 1981, President Carter
18established The Carter Center to promote and expand human
19rights in 1982, earning him a Nobel Peace Prize in 2002; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Throughout the years, President Carter has

1traveled extensively to conduct peace negotiations, monitor
2elections, and further the eradication of infectious diseases;
3and
 
4    WHEREAS, President Carter's dedication to public service
5through The Carter Center has pushed forward significant
6contributions to global health, democracy, and human rights;
7and
 
8    WHEREAS, President Carter's legacy includes being a key
9figure in support of the nonprofit organization Habitat for
10Humanity, which has provided shelter and improved living
11conditions for more than 59 million people across the globe;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, President Carter's humility and dedication to
14community service serve as an inspiration to individuals and
15leaders alike, encouraging acts of kindness and civic
16engagement; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Despite President Carter being sworn in as
18president more than 40 years ago and only serving one term, he
19has never stopped working to serve the people; therefore, be
20it

1HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
2we recognize the 100th birthday of President James Earl
3"Jimmy" Carter Jr., his contributions to our nation and the
4world, and the enduring impact of his life's work in promoting
5peace, democracy, and humanitarianism; and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That we wish President Carter continued health
7and happiness; and be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to President Carter as an expression of our
10gratitude for his service.
