HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Surgene Covance Cabell, who passed away on September 24, 2024; and

WHEREAS, Surgene Cabell, the son of Priscilla Arnold and Edward G. Cabell, was born on August 5, 1942; he was an all-state football player at Waukegan High School, and he continued his football legacy at Bradley University; he appeared on American Bandstand where he won with his dance partner, Ethel Suggs; and

WHEREAS, Surgene Cabell played semi-professional football for the Lake County Rifles; and

WHEREAS, Surgene Cabell was a member of Hope Fellowship Church in Ormond Beach, Florida, and his community and spiritual life were deeply intertwined with his daily activities; and

WHEREAS, Surgene Cabell was passionate about coaching basketball, fishing, and contributing to the Boy Scouts of America, where he enjoyed mentoring young individuals; and

WHEREAS, Surgene Cabell was known for his athleticism, honesty, fairness, and welcoming nature; he was deeply caring and loving and often gave sage advice with a touch of humor; and

WHEREAS, Surgene Cabell was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Louis Arnold; and his brother, Marvin Cabell; and

WHEREAS, Surgene Cabell is survived by his wife, Constance; his children, Anton, Priscilla, Andria, Steven, Surgene, Melody, and Lisa; his brother, Edward Cabell; his grandchildren; and his great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Surgene Covance Cabell and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Surgene Cabell as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
