2 | WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives wish | ||||||
3 | to congratulate Chief Michael Simo of the Morton Grove Police | ||||||
4 | Department on the occasion of his retirement; and | ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Chief Simo has worked in law enforcement for 44 | ||||||
6 | years, including 34 years with the Village of Addison Police | ||||||
7 | Department, and he was hired as the Morton Grove police chief | ||||||
8 | in 2014; he received a bachelor's degree in management and a | ||||||
9 | master's degree in public safety administration; he graduated | ||||||
10 | from a professional development program for local police at | ||||||
11 | the FBI Academy; and | ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Among his accomplishments, Chief Simo oversaw the | ||||||
13 | Morton Grove Police Department earn accreditation as a Tier II | ||||||
14 | Law Enforcement Agency by the Illinois Law Enforcement | ||||||
15 | Accreditation Program (ILEAP); he also helped convince the | ||||||
16 | Village of Morton Grove to end a requirement that police | ||||||
17 | officers had to purchase their own weapons, holsters, and | ||||||
18 | extra magazines in order to provide more consistency in | ||||||
19 | training, maintenance, and handling of weapons; he distributed | ||||||
20 | personal protective equipment to first responders, and he | ||||||
21 | reduced juvenile crime rates by working to promote a broad | ||||||
22 | range of resources for after-school activities and childhood | ||||||
23 | services; and |

1 | WHEREAS, Chief Simo also represented Morton Grove as the | ||||||
2 | Executive Board President of the North Regional Major Crimes | ||||||
3 | Task Force (NORTAF) and the Northeastern Illinois Regional | ||||||
4 | Crime Laboratory (NIRCL) and acted as an instructor for the | ||||||
5 | Morton Grove Police Department's citizens police academy; and | ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Under Chief Simo's tenure, the Morton Grove | ||||||
7 | Police Department was awarded the 2020 Illinois Traffic Safety | ||||||
8 | Challenge 1st Place Award and the 2020 Railroad Crossing and | ||||||
9 | Safety Award by the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police; | ||||||
10 | and | ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Chief Simo was the catalyst for bringing | ||||||
12 | significant and positive change to the Morton Grove Police | ||||||
13 | Department by enhancing training, purchasing modern equipment, | ||||||
14 | and improving communication and community relations; and | ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Chief Simo considers his family his most | ||||||
16 | significant accomplishment, and he plans to enjoy spending | ||||||
17 | more time with his wife, Nancy, his four children, and his two | ||||||
18 | grandsons; therefore, be it | ||||||
19 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
20 | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
21 | we congratulate Chief Michael Simo on his retirement, we thank |
