HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Perri Small on the occasion of her retirement as a talk radio host at station WVON 1690; and

WHEREAS, Perri Small, a resident of Roseland Heights, was raised in West Chesterfield and graduated from Elizabeth Seton High School in South Holland; she studied communications at Western Illinois University; and

WHEREAS, Prior to joining the Black-owned radio station WVON 1690, Perri Small worked in the press office of former Chicago Mayor Harold Washington and for the Citizen Newspaper Group; and

WHEREAS, Perri Small served as a talk radio host at WVON 1690 for 30 years; during her career, she became known for her humor, her authenticity, and her tell-it-like-it-is approach on issues facing the Black community, serving as a courageous voice for the voiceless while continually spearheading leadership, love, light, and liberty for all in the process; and

WHEREAS, Perri Small has received a number of accolades, including being the focus of a 2024 documentary on VONtv, Perri Period! In Her Own Words, and being the namesake of Perri Small Day, a proclamation by Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson in recognition of her exceptional career and her unwavering dedication to enriching public life through journalism and advocacy; and

WHEREAS, Perri Small, well-regarded as a living legend in the City of Chicago, concludes her career as a journalist and a media personality dearly loved by her listeners and her WVON family alike; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Perri Small on her retirement as a talk radio host at station WVON 1690 and wish her all the best in her future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Perri Small as an expression of our esteem and respect.
