HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Perri Small on the
4occasion of her retirement as a talk radio host at station WVON
51690; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Perri Small, a resident of Roseland Heights, was
7raised in West Chesterfield and graduated from Elizabeth Seton
8High School in South Holland; she studied communications at
9Western Illinois University; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Prior to joining the Black-owned radio station
11WVON 1690, Perri Small worked in the press office of former
12Chicago Mayor Harold Washington and for the Citizen Newspaper
13Group; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Perri Small served as a talk radio host at WVON
151690 for 30 years; during her career, she became known for her
16humor, her authenticity, and her tell-it-like-it-is approach
17on issues facing the Black community, serving as a courageous
18voice for the voiceless while continually spearheading
19leadership, love, light, and liberty for all in the process;
20and
 
21    WHEREAS, Perri Small has received a number of accolades,

1including being the focus of a 2024 documentary on VONtv,
2Perri Period! In Her Own Words, and being the namesake of Perri
3Small Day, a proclamation by Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson in
4recognition of her exceptional career and her unwavering
5dedication to enriching public life through journalism and
6advocacy; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Perri Small, well-regarded as a living legend in
8the City of Chicago, concludes her career as a journalist and a
9media personality dearly loved by her listeners and her WVON
10family alike; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
12HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
13we congratulate Perri Small on her retirement as a talk radio
14host at station WVON 1690 and wish her all the best in her
15future endeavors; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to Perri Small as an expression of our esteem and
18respect.
