| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Master Sergeant Jennifer |
| 4 | | Smit of the Illinois State Police on the occasion of receiving |
| 5 | | the 2024 Danville Noon Rotary Vocational Service Person of the |
| 6 | | Year Award; and |
| 7 | | WHEREAS, The Danville Noon Rotary Vocational Service |
| 8 | | Person of the Year Award is presented to a local individual who |
| 9 | | best exemplifies the ideals of Rotary and the practice of high |
| 10 | | ethical standards in their chosen vocation; and |
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Master Sergeant Smit has pursued a career in law |
| 12 | | enforcement since she accepted the call to serve the citizens |
| 13 | | of Danville as a police officer in 2014; and |
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Master Sergeant Smit was an award-winning |
| 15 | | student-athlete and academic-honors recipient while attending |
| 16 | | Bishop McNamara High School in Kankakee and DePaul University, |
| 17 | | and she also excelled in completing her police academy |
| 18 | | studies; and |
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Master Sergeant Smit, who possesses a master's |
| 20 | | degree in education, previously served as a seventh-grade |
| 21 | | science teacher at North Ridge Middle School in Danville for |

| 1 | | nearly three years; and |
| 2 | | WHEREAS, Master Sergeant Smit served as an officer at the |
| 3 | | Danville Police Department for three years before expanding |
| 4 | | her outreach by taking a position as a trooper with the |
| 5 | | Illinois State Police, where she was promoted to sergeant in |
| 6 | | less than five years and then to master sergeant in 2024; and |
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Master Sergeant Smit was heavily endorsed by her |
| 8 | | supervisor, Illinois State Police Master Sergeant Kenneth |
| 9 | | Massey, to receive the 2024 Danville Noon Rotary Vocational |
| 10 | | Service Person of the Year Award, considering her to be an |
| 11 | | officer and a sergeant worthy of recognition; and |
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Master Sergeant Smit further serves the community |
| 13 | | by donating her free time through volunteering, including |
| 14 | | assisting the Danville Area Community College (DACC) |
| 15 | | Foundation with scholarships and supporting the Women's |
| 16 | | Survival Resource Center with its annual Walk a Mile in Her |
| 17 | | Shoes fundraising event; and |
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Master Sergeant Smit shows compassion to everyone |
| 19 | | in the community with whom she interacts and has helped people |
| 20 | | understand that just because officers are charged with |
| 21 | | enforcing the law that they are not to be feared; therefore, be |
| 22 | | it |

| 1 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 2 | | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 3 | | we congratulate Master Sergeant Jennifer Smit of the Illinois |
| 4 | | State Police on receiving the 2024 Danville Noon Rotary |
| 5 | | Vocational Service Person of the Year Award and commend her |
| 6 | | for the positive impact she has made and continues to make in |
| 7 | | her community; and be it further |
| 8 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 9 | | presented to Master Sergeant Smit as an expression of our |
| 10 | | esteem and respect. |
