| 2 | | WHEREAS, Since 1915, the Chinese Christian Union Church |
| 3 | | (CCUC) has worked to provide services to Chinese immigrants in |
| 4 | | Chicago's Chinatown community; and |
| 5 | | WHEREAS, In 1993, the CCUC purchased the former building |
| 6 | | of the On Leong Merchants Association, Chinatown's only |
| 7 | | historic landmark building, in order to house the delivery of |
| 8 | | its community services and preserve a historic structure; and |
| 9 | | WHEREAS, In 1994, the CCUC founded the Pui Tak Center, as |
| 10 | | the building is now known, to house its community service |
| 11 | | initiatives which today serve more than 3,000 individuals each |
| 12 | | year who live in Chicago's Chinatown and surrounding |
| 13 | | communities through English as a Second Language (ESL) and |
| 14 | | citizenship classes for new immigrants, after-school classes |
| 15 | | for kids, disability services, adult computer classes, and a |
| 16 | | variety of other services for immigrants; and |
| 17 | | WHEREAS, The Pui Tak Center has served as an official |
| 18 | | Illinois Welcoming Center since 2021; and |
| 19 | | WHEREAS, The Pui Tak Center is the third largest |
| 20 | | community-based adult education provider in Illinois, offering |
| 21 | | state-funded adult education programs since 1999; and |
