| 1 | | AN ACT concerning education.

| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 | | Section 5. The Public Community College Act is amended by |
| 5 | | adding Section 2-27 as follows:
|
| 6 | | (110 ILCS 805/2-27 new) |
| 7 | | Sec. 2-27. Direct support professional training program. |
| 8 | | By July 1, 2025, the State Board shall submit recommendations |
| 9 | | for a model program of study, for credit, that incorporates |
| 10 | | the training and experience necessary to serve as a direct |
| 11 | | support professional to the Department of Human Services. The |
| 12 | | model program of study shall be developed in consultation with |
| 13 | | stakeholders, including, but not limited to, organizations |
| 14 | | representing community-based providers serving children and |
| 15 | | adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities, and |
| 16 | | elementary and secondary education practitioners, including, |
| 17 | | but not limited to, teachers, administrators, special |
| 18 | | education directors, and regional superintendents of schools. |
| 19 | | Beginning with the 2026-2027 academic year and continuing for |
| 20 | | not less than 2 academic years, the State Board shall make |
| 21 | | available to community colleges the model program of study |
| 22 | | developed under this Section. |
