| 1 | | AN ACT concerning safety.
|
| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 | | Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the |
| 5 | | Pesticide Application at Schools Act. |
| 6 | | Section 5. Legislative findings. The General Assembly |
| 7 | | finds that: |
| 8 | | (1) schools throughout the State treat school property |
| 9 | | with pesticides in order to reduce risks to students from |
| 10 | | noxious weeds, such as thistle, poison ivy, pests, |
| 11 | | allergies, disease bearing insects, and activities on |
| 12 | | unlevel playing surfaces; |
| 13 | | (2) unless properly applied in accordance with the |
| 14 | | United States Environmental Protection Agency's pesticide |
| 15 | | labels, schools may inadvertently expose children to |
| 16 | | pesticides; and |
| 17 | | (3) it is the purpose of this Act to minimize student |
| 18 | | exposure to pesticides. |
| 19 | | Section 10. Definition. As used in this Act, "school day" |
| 20 | | has the same meaning given to that term in Section 300.11 of |
| 21 | | the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. |
