SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
625 ILCS 5/3-699.25 new

    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Allows the Secretary of State to issue special registration plates designated as Knox College plates. Provides that the original issuance fee, in addition to the applicable registration fee, shall be $40 and the renewal fee, in addition to the regular renewal fee, shall be $27.

1    AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding
5Section 3-699.25 as follows:
 
6    (625 ILCS 5/3-699.25 new)
7    Sec. 3-699.25. Knox College plates.
8    (a) In addition to any other special license plate, the
9Secretary, upon receipt of all applicable fees and
10applications made in the form prescribed by the Secretary of
11State, may issue special registration plates designated as
12Knox College plates. The special plates issued under this
13Section shall be affixed only to passenger vehicles of the
14first division and motor vehicles of the second division
15weighing not more than 8,000 pounds and subject to the
16staggered registration system. Plates issued under this
17Section shall expire according to the staggered multi-year
18procedure established under Section 3-414.1 of this Code.
19    (b) The design, color, and format of the plates shall be
20wholly within the discretion of the Secretary of State.
21Appropriate documentation, as determined by the Secretary,
22shall accompany each application. The Secretary may, in his or
23her discretion, allow the plates to be issued as vanity plates

1or personalized in accordance with Section 3-405.1 of this
2Code. The plates are not required to designate "Land Of
3Lincoln", as prescribed in subsection (b) of Section 3-412 of
4this Code. The Secretary shall prescribe the eligibility
5requirements and, in his or her discretion, shall approve and
6prescribe stickers or decals as provided under Section 3-412.
7    (c) An applicant shall be charged a $40 fee for original
8issuance in addition to the applicable registration fee. Of
9the original issuance fee, $25 shall be deposited into the
10University Grant Fund and $15 shall be deposited into the
11Secretary of State Special License Plate Fund to be used by the
12Secretary of State, subject to appropriation, to help defray
13the administrative cost of issuing the plate. In addition to
14the regular renewal fee, an applicant shall be charged $27 for
15the renewal of each set of license plates issued under this
16Section; $25 shall be deposited into the University Grant
17Fund, and $2 shall be deposited into the Secretary of State
18Special License Plate Fund plates for all Knox College plates.
