SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 
3congratulate Robert Smith on the occasion of his retirement 
4after 19 years as head coach of  the Simeon Career Academy boys 
5basketball team; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Robert Smith's first game as Simeon head coach 
7was Derrick Rose's highly-anticipated
debut; his Rose-led

8teams won back-to-back Class AA state titles in 2006 and 2007, 
9and he guided Simeon to four
consecutive Class 4A state 
10championships from 2010 to 2013; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, Robert Smith recently passed the mark of 500 
12wins, making him one of the most successful head coaches in 
13Illinois high school basketball history; and
 

  
14    WHEREAS, Robert Smith's final season sees Simeon ranked 
15toward the top once again; he led his team to their eighth city 
16title, and they are contenders for another state championship; 
17and
 
18    WHEREAS, Robert Smith's humbleness and openness has kept 
19him relatable to his players over the years; and
  
 
20    WHEREAS, Robert Smith's  next move is to focus on

1fatherhood; both of his children are talented
basketball 
2players; therefore, be it
  
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL 
4ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Robert 
5Smith on his retirement after 19 years as head coach of  the 
6Simeon Career Academy boys basketball team and wish him the 
7best in all his future endeavors; and be it further
  
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
9presented to Robert Smith as a symbol of our respect and 
10esteem.
