| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
| 3 | to learn of the death of Robert W. "Bob" Vose of Springfield, | ||||||
| 4 | who passed away on February 20, 2023; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Bob Vose was born in Springfield to John and | ||||||
| 6 | Hedwig (Krebs) Vose on January 19, 1929; he attended Sacred | ||||||
| 7 | Heart Grade School and Lanphier High School; he served in the | ||||||
| 8 | U.S. Army; he married Virginia Vetter at Saints Peter & Paul | ||||||
| 9 | Church in Springfield on May 2, 1953; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Bob Vose worked for the Illinois Ice Company, | ||||||
| 11 | delivering ice for many years before becoming a City Water, | ||||||
| 12 | Light, and Power meter reader, and later a stationary engineer | ||||||
| 13 | for the State of Illinois; and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Bob Vose was well known as "The Korndog King"; he | ||||||
| 15 | and his brothers initially started selling Vose Corn Dogs at | ||||||
| 16 | the Illinois State Fair in 1966; he and his wife, Virginia, | ||||||
| 17 | continued Vose Fine Food for over 50 years; visiting the Vose | ||||||
| 18 | Family Corn Dog stand continues to be a statewide annual | ||||||
| 19 | tradition during the Illinois State Fair; he was given the | ||||||
| 20 | Illinoisan of the Day Award in 2011 by the Illinois State Fair | ||||||
| 21 | and was honored to be a grand marshal at the fair in 2017; and | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | WHEREAS, Bob Vose was a proud and active citizen, serving | ||||||
| 2 | his country and his beloved city; he was the first city | ||||||
| 3 | alderman elected to represent Ward 5 and continued to be an | ||||||
| 4 | advocate for his ward and its residents long after his term of | ||||||
| 5 | service expired; he was a member of the Oak Ridge Cemetery | ||||||
| 6 | Foundation and was active in fundraising for the cemetery and | ||||||
| 7 | responsible for Monument Avenue beautification improvements; | ||||||
| 8 | and | ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Bob Vose was a generous man and donated his time, | ||||||
| 10 | treasure, and talents to many local causes throughout his | ||||||
| 11 | life; he loved playing the role of Santa Claus at the city | ||||||
| 12 | recreation department and was a referee and umpire of high | ||||||
| 13 | school sports for several years; he sponsored the annual | ||||||
| 14 | Goodwill client Halloween and Christmas parties for 34 years; | ||||||
| 15 | and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Bob Vose was a member of IBEW Local 193 for over | ||||||
| 17 | 65 years; he was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic | ||||||
| 18 | Church and a proud north ender; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Bob Vose was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
| 20 | his wife, Virginia; four brothers; and six sisters; and
| ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, Bob Vose is survived by his children, Robert Vose | ||||||
| 22 | Jr., Virginia (Mike) Geiger, Ronald (MaryBeth) Vose, Kenneth | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | (Roxann) Vose, Debra Vose, and Sandra (Robert) Orr; 14 | ||||||
| 2 | grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; his brother, Harold | ||||||
| 3 | (Jean) Vose; and several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 4 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
| 5 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 6 | Robert W. "Bob" Vose and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
| 7 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
| 8 | further

| 9 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 10 | presented to the family of Bob Vose as an expression of our | ||||||
| 11 | deepest sympathy.
