SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Alice Joanne (Spring) Roderick of Springfield, who passed away on March 10, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Alice Roderick was born to Albert William and Hester Elaine (Summerfield) Spring in Springfield on December 21, 1932; she graduated from Lanphier High School in 1950, and she coordinated class reunions for many years; she married Donald Roderick at Third Presbyterian Church on November 10, 1951, and they later divorced; she attended Joliet Junior College and completed her Bachelor of Arts at Rockford College in 1971; she received her MAA from Sangamon State University, known today as the University of Illinois Springfield (UIS); and

WHEREAS, Alice Roderick began her teaching career at Staley Elementary School in 1972; she transferred to Wanless Elementary School in 1979, where she taught until her retirement in 1994; and

WHEREAS, Alice Roderick was a member of the Illinois Education Association (IEA), the National Education Association (NEA), the American Association of University Women (AAUW), the King's Daughters Organization, and Phi Delta Kappa; she volunteered at Memorial Hospital's gift shop for 20 years, retiring in 2008; and

WHEREAS, Alice Roderick was a 50-year member of the Third Presbyterian Church and was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church; and

WHEREAS, Alice Roderick loved traveling, playing bridge, and reading; most of all, she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Alice Roderick was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Robert Spring and Jack Spring; her infant siblings, James and Carol; her son, the Very Reverend Dr. Keith Richard Roderick; her in-laws, Robert and Doris (Roderick) Pitts, Kenneth and Patricia (Roderick) Mueller, John Stevens, and Dee Spring; her step-grandson, Donald McKee; her grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and nephews; and her many dear friends; and

WHEREAS, Alice Roderick is survived by her son, Blake (Betsy) Roderick; her daughter, Pam Roderick; her daughter-in-law, Mary Beth (Hansen) Roderick; her grandchildren, Seth (Elvia) Roderick, Micah (Amy) Roderick, Dr. Noah (Cherish) Roderick, Sarah (Jack) Fitch, Joseph (Rachel) Roderick, Maj. Evan (Natasha) Roderick, Aubrey Jo (Andrew) Tyndall, and Susannah Roderick; and her step-grandchildren, John McKee, Jacob (Bridget) Cramsey, Josh (Olivia) Cramsey, and Rachel (Isaac) Viar; her great-grandchildren, Quinn Roderick, Desmond Roderick, Mackland Roderick, Henry Roderick, Lydia Roderick, Daphne Roderick, Llewyn Tyndall, Remington Cramsey, Lynden Cramsey, and Mabel Cramsey; her sister, Sharyl Stevens; her sister-in-law, Nada King; and several nephews, nieces, and cousins; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Alice Joanne (Spring) Roderick and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Alice Roderick as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
