| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of Alice Joanne (Spring) Roderick of |
| 4 | | Springfield, who passed away on March 10, 2023; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Alice Roderick was born to Albert William and |
| 6 | | Hester Elaine (Summerfield) Spring in Springfield on December |
| 7 | | 21, 1932; she graduated from Lanphier High School in 1950, and |
| 8 | | she coordinated class reunions for many years; she married |
| 9 | | Donald Roderick at Third Presbyterian Church on November 10, |
| 10 | | 1951, and they later divorced; she attended Joliet Junior |
| 11 | | College and completed her Bachelor of Arts at Rockford College |
| 12 | | in 1971; she received her MAA from Sangamon State University, |
| 13 | | known today as the University of Illinois Springfield (UIS); |
| 14 | | and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Alice Roderick began her teaching career at |
| 16 | | Staley Elementary School in 1972; she transferred to Wanless |
| 17 | | Elementary School in 1979, where she taught until her |
| 18 | | retirement in 1994; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Alice Roderick was a member of the Illinois |
| 20 | | Education Association (IEA), the National Education |
| 21 | | Association (NEA), the American Association of University |
| 22 | | Women (AAUW), the King's Daughters Organization, and Phi Delta |
|

| 1 | | Kappa; she volunteered at Memorial Hospital's gift shop for 20 |
| 2 | | years, retiring in 2008; and
|
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Alice Roderick was a 50-year member of the Third |
| 4 | | Presbyterian Church and was a member of Westminster |
| 5 | | Presbyterian Church; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Alice Roderick loved traveling, playing bridge, |
| 7 | | and reading; most of all, she loved spending time with her |
| 8 | | children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Alice Roderick was preceded in death by her |
| 10 | | parents; her brothers, Robert Spring and Jack Spring; her |
| 11 | | infant siblings, James and Carol; her son, the Very Reverend |
| 12 | | Dr. Keith Richard Roderick; her in-laws, Robert and Doris |
| 13 | | (Roderick) Pitts, Kenneth and Patricia (Roderick) Mueller, |
| 14 | | John Stevens, and Dee Spring; her step-grandson, Donald McKee; |
| 15 | | her grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and nephews; and her |
| 16 | | many dear friends; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Alice Roderick is survived by her son, Blake |
| 18 | | (Betsy) Roderick; her daughter, Pam Roderick; her |
| 19 | | daughter-in-law, Mary Beth (Hansen) Roderick; her |
| 20 | | grandchildren, Seth (Elvia) Roderick, Micah (Amy) Roderick, |
| 21 | | Dr. Noah (Cherish) Roderick, Sarah (Jack) Fitch, Joseph |
| 22 | | (Rachel) Roderick, Maj. Evan (Natasha) Roderick, Aubrey Jo |

| 7 | | and Mabel Cramsey; her sister, Sharyl Stevens; her |
| 8 | | sister-in-law, Nada King; and several nephews, nieces, and |

| 10 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL |
| 11 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 12 | | Alice Joanne (Spring) Roderick and extend our sincere |
| 13 | | condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved |
| 14 | | her; and be it further
|
| 15 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 16 | | presented to the family of Alice Roderick as an expression of |
| 17 | | our deepest sympathy.
