SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 
3congratulate NASCAR on the occasion of its 75th anniversary on 
4February 21, 2023; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Auto 
6Racing) is the sanctioning body for the premier form of 
7motorsports in the United States; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, NASCAR was incorporated in Daytona Beach, Florida 
9on February 21, 1948; and
 
10    WHEREAS, NASCAR was formed to organize and promote stock 
11car racing in the United States; and
 
12    WHEREAS, NASCAR has become the premier motorsports 
13innovator, universally regarded as one of the world's most 
14successful sports entertainment properties; and
 
15    WHEREAS, The NASCAR Cup Series features one of the longest 
16seasons in sports, which extends across 10 months of the year, 
17with large on-site audiences averaging over 100,000 spectators 
18per weekend; and
 
19    WHEREAS, NASCAR has expanded throughout its history to

1become a global sport with series that race in more than 30 
2States, as well as Canada, Mexico, Europe, and Brazil; and
 
3    WHEREAS, NASCAR has conducted successful racing events in 
4the State of Illinois for over 20 years; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Today, NASCAR sanctions more than 1,200 races 
6annually, and its races are broadcast in nearly every country 
7around the world; and
 
8    WHEREAS, NASCAR selected Chicago as the inaugural location 
9for a historical city street race, the first  of its kind for 
10the NASCAR Cup Series; and
 
11    WHEREAS, NASCAR strives to ensure that each of its race 
12events are economically successful, relevant, entertaining, 
13and safe; and
 
14    WHEREAS, NASCAR has made a positive economic impact on 
15local businesses and residents throughout the State of 
16Illinois; and
 
17    WHEREAS, NASCAR continually seeks to engage the core fan 
18while igniting lifetime relationships with future fans; and
  
 
19    WHEREAS, NASCAR champions and rewards a winning,

1innovative culture through sport, which has inspired 
2generations of Americans; and
  
 
3    WHEREAS, The NASCAR Foundation has had a positive impact 
4on nearly 1.7 million children and donated more than $43 
5million to children in need; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, NASCAR's 75th anniversary season will be a 
7yearlong celebration of the sport's past, present, and future; 
8therefore, be it
  
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL 
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate NASCAR 
11on its 75th anniversary and commemorate its contributions to 
12the State of Illinois and our residents.
