| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of Lela Tyler, who passed away on |
| 4 | | February 28, 2023; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Lela Tyler graduated from Wendell Phillips High |
| 6 | | School; she attended Kennedy-King College and the Chicago |
| 7 | | Baptist Institute; she graduated from the Lydia Adams School |
| 8 | | of Beauty Culture, where she earned her License of Cosmetology |
| 9 | | from the State of Illinois; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Lela Tyler opened her own beauty salon, Touch of |
| 11 | | Beauty, which she successfully operated for 21 years; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Lela Tyler attended Pilgrim Rest M.B. Church, |
| 13 | | where she faithfully served as an usher, a Finance Room |
| 14 | | helper, and a deaconess; she also assisted the Sunday school; |
| 15 | | she later attended First Timothy Missionary Baptist Church; |
| 16 | | and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Lela Tyler was active in the Union District |
| 18 | | Baptist Association (UDBA),
where she was known for her |
| 19 | | distinguished singing voice
and for helping out as chaplain |
| 20 | | during devotions; she served as
president of the UDBA'S Ushers |
| 21 | | Department for four years; and
|
