| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of Jean L. "Tank" Corner, who passed away |
| 4 | | on April 30, 2023 at the age of 52; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Jean Corner was born in Columbia, South Carolina |
| 6 | | to Mary Corner and Leonard Davis on January 16, 1971; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Jean Corner began elementary school in North |
| 8 | | Carolina; during these early years, he developed a passion for |
| 9 | | football; when his family moved to Illinois, he continued to |
| 10 | | play at Garfield Elementary School and also joined the |
| 11 | | Bellwood Spartans extracurricular team; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Jean Corner attended Proviso East High School |
| 13 | | through his junior year; he ultimately graduated from Oak Park |
| 14 | | and River Forest High School (OPRFHS) in 1989, having become a |
| 15 | | local football star; he also shared a passion for television |
| 16 | | and film with his former classmates, which kept them connected |
| 17 | | well into adulthood; and |
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Jean Corner subsequently enrolled at Northern |
| 19 | | Iowa Community College, where he earned an associate's degree |
| 20 | | in art; he completed an undergraduate program at the |
| 21 | | University of Northern Iowa in 1994 on a football scholarship; |

| 2 | | WHEREAS, Jean Corner found a special kinship in Omega Psi |
| 3 | | Phi Fraternity, INC in 1996; he pledged and became a member of |
| 4 | | MuXi Chapter; he and his line brothers referred to themselves |
| 5 | | as the "Qrazy 8"; he also befriended members of multiple other |
| 6 | | "Divine Nine" fraternities; and |
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Jean Corner took his sports skills overseas to |
| 8 | | Tokyo after his time pursuing a college education; he remained |
| 9 | | a loyal Dallas Cowboys fan no matter where he lived, either in |
| 10 | | the U.S. or abroad; and |
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Jean Corner returned to his high school alma |
| 12 | | mater as a campus safety officer once his stint in |
| 13 | | professional sports ended; he trained and mentored generations |
| 14 | | of OPRFHS athletes as the six-year head coach of the Powder |
| 15 | | Puff Girls Football League and the inaugural girls' flag |
| 16 | | football team during the fall 2022 season; he shared his |
| 17 | | personal training services with community members as well; and |
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Jean Corner brought his dream of owning and |
| 19 | | operating a fitness clothing line to fruition by launching |
| 20 | | Fitness II Perfection (FIIP), LLC; his garments bore affirming |
| 21 | | and positive statements, such as "Work Hard…No Excuses"; and |
|

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Jean Corner relished time with his family, |
| 2 | | especially Christmas gatherings hosted across the United |
| 3 | | States; his nephews, Darrion and Josiah, became his sons and |
| 4 | | shared this title with his first-born, Zayden; and |
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Jean Corner's appetite competed with his love of |
| 6 | | fitness and exercise; he loved his mother and grandmother's |
| 7 | | cooking the most, but he never turned down a meal; although his |
| 8 | | given name was Jean, he had long gone by the nickname "Tank", |
| 9 | | which fit him well as he was built like a tank, short but wide |
| 10 | | and powerful; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Jean Corner was preceded in death by his father, |
| 12 | | Leonard Davis, and his sister, Emma Raggs-Franklin; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Jean Corner is survived by his son, Zayden |
| 14 | | Corner; his mother, Mary Corner; his grandmother, Catherine |
| 15 | | Corner; his nephews, Josiah "JoJo" McKevin and Darrion |
| 16 | | Johnson; his sisters, Shereta Hunt and Anita Raggs; his |
| 17 | | brother, Cleveland Raggs; his fiancée, LaTonia Jackson; his |
| 18 | | FIIP family; his caretakers at LaGrange Hospital; and numerous |
| 19 | | other family members, friends, and fans; therefore, be it
|
| 20 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL |
| 21 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 22 | | Jean L. "Tank" Corner and extend our sincere condolences to |
