SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Salvatore DiCarlo of Virden, who passed away on May 24, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Salvatore DiCarlo was born in Altofonte, Sicily, Italy on July 25, 1949; he came to the United States and married Vita DiCarlo in January 1976; and

WHEREAS, Salvatore DiCarlo and Vita opened DiCarlo's Pizza in 1976; through their pizzeria, he brought his love for food and good company to the community over the last 47 years; and

WHEREAS, Salvatore DiCarlo's first love was his beautiful home of Sicily, Italy, with the crystal blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea, sandy beaches, mountains, and narrow streets leading to beautiful small towns; he could often be found at the piazza outside a café, enjoying a coffee or a few scoops of gelato; he relished all gelato flavors, but his favorites were zuppa inglese, hazelnut, strawberry, and lemon; he loved visiting Sicily with his family, especially when he could show la bella Sicilia, the beautiful Sicily, to those visiting for the first time; and

WHEREAS, Salvatore DiCarlo spent hours with his grandchildren, laughing, playing, and chasing them in circles around the house; he taught each one of them how to make pizza as soon as they were old enough to stand on a stool; he may have been 73 years old, but he was always a child at heart and his grandchildren loved every second they had with their "Nonno"; and

WHEREAS, Salvatore DiCarlo loved being in a kitchen, cooking delicious food to enjoy with his family and friends; he never met a stranger and treated everyone like family; he loved to laugh, finding joy in almost anything; and

WHEREAS, Salvatore DiCarlo was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and two sisters; and

WHEREAS, Salvatore DiCarlo is survived his children, Carlo (Kate), Anna Maria (Francesco) Lentini, and Josephine (Lance) Hickey; his grandchildren, Salvatore, Antonino, Pietro, Luisa, Anthony, Cristina, and Lorenzo; and numerous nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Salvatore DiCarlo and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Salvatore DiCarlo as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
