| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
| 3 | to learn of the death of Harry Isamu Sakai of Schaumburg, who | ||||||
| 4 | passed away on July 16, 2023; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Harry Sakai was born to Isamu and Machiko | ||||||
| 6 | (Hoshiyama) Sakai in Chicago on October 8, 1946; he was raised | ||||||
| 7 | in Chicago and graduated from Lane Tech College Prep High | ||||||
| 8 | School in 1964; he earned his Associate in Arts in Accounting | ||||||
| 9 | from Wright Junior College, his Bachelor of Arts from the | ||||||
| 10 | University of Illinois at Chicago, and his Master of Business | ||||||
| 11 | Administration from Lewis University; he and his wife, Sharon | ||||||
| 12 | Kilkenny, moved to Schaumburg at the end of 1975; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Harry Sakai was a Certified Public Accountant | ||||||
| 14 | (CPA), using his attention to detail and love of numbers to | ||||||
| 15 | serve as an accountant and later as finance director in local | ||||||
| 16 | village governments; he began his career as accountant for a | ||||||
| 17 | food processor in Kodiak, Alaska, and he ended his career as | ||||||
| 18 | the finance director for the Village of Hanover Park; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Harry Sakai became interested in martial arts in | ||||||
| 20 | his 30s; he joined Shotokan Karate and became a black belt; he | ||||||
| 21 | also practiced Iaido and earned a black belt in this art; and
| ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | WHEREAS, In retirement, Harry Sakai became an avid | ||||||
| 2 | gardener, and he especially enjoyed planting bulbs in the fall | ||||||
| 3 | to grow into a beautiful display in the spring; he also enjoyed | ||||||
| 4 | taking trips to Las Vegas every year and was an avid fan of | ||||||
| 5 | singer Petula Clark; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Harry Sakai was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
| 7 | his sister, Peggy; and his brother-in-law, Mike Waters; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Harry Sakai was the husband of Sharon Kilkenny | ||||||
| 9 | for almost 51 years; the brother of Janet (Rich) Pultorak; the | ||||||
| 10 | brother-in-law of Kathleen Kilkenny; the uncle of Sue (Mike) | ||||||
| 11 | Stonequist and Cyndi (Matt) Ozimek; the granduncle of Brendan, | ||||||
| 12 | Connor, and Abby Stonequist and Jonathan and Nicholas Ozimek; | ||||||
| 13 | and the friend of many; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 14 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
| 15 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 16 | Harry Isamu Sakai and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
| 17 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
| 18 | further

| 19 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 20 | presented to the family of Harry Sakai as an expression of our | ||||||
| 21 | deepest sympathy.
