SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Michael David "Mike" Cahill, who passed away on August 23, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Mike Cahill was born to Donald and Edith (Tunis) Cahill Meier in Chicago on July 9, 1947; he was raised in Zion; he attended Oak Park High School; he attended Illinois State University (ISU); while there, he met and married Rose Ann "Rosie" Cain at the First Christian Church in Henry on August 26, 1967; his college education was interrupted when he was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served as a paratrooper in Vietnam for 13 months and received many awards for his service, including the Bronze Star; upon completion of his military duty, he returned to ISU and earned his teaching degree; and

WHEREAS, Mike Cahill was a highly respected teacher at Havana High School and Havana Junior High School before retiring in 2005; and

WHEREAS, Mike Cahill was a life member of VFW Post #6408, where he served as quartermaster and commander for several years; he was also a member of the American Legion in Henry; and

WHEREAS, Mike Cahill enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and reading books; he loved his dogs and cat; and

WHEREAS, Mike Cahill was preceded in death by his parents and his cousin, Nancy Mendez; and

WHEREAS, Mike Cahill is survived by his wife of 55 years, Rose Ann Cahill; his half-sister, Pam Meier; his stepsister, Susan Riley; his stepbrother, Bob Meier; and his cousins, Margaret Bareika, Danny Schulz, and Bert Blakeway; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Michael David "Mike" Cahill and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Mike Cahill as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
