|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
3 | | to learn of the death of Gilbert Carl Nolde of Peoria, who |
4 | | passed away on August 19, 2023; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Gilbert Nolde was born in Saint Louis, Missouri |
6 | | on June 8, 1930; he attended Soldan High School in Saint Louis |
7 | | and graduated from the Missouri School of Journalism at the |
8 | | University of Missouri; he married Jocyle A. Wilson on |
9 | | February 28, 1953; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Gilbert Nolde began working in Washington, D.C. |
11 | | as a Russian translator for the United States government; he |
12 | | then accepted a position in Peoria with Caterpillar Tractor, |
13 | | where he worked for 37 years and had a fulfilling career in |
14 | | several departments, including the advertising department in |
15 | | Geneva, Switzerland, which was one of his favorites; while |
16 | | living in Europe, he enjoyed traveling, especially his trips |
17 | | to London for work and to see all things Shakespeare; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, Gilbert Nolde became involved in church life and |
19 | | community service in Peoria; he served on numerous boards for |
20 | | organizations, including the American Cancer Society, the |
21 | | United Way, Look. It's My Book!, the Crittendon Center, |
22 | | Lutheran Social Services of Illinois, and the Illinois Central |

1 | | College Foundation; he taught adult Bible study for over 50 |
2 | | years, including during his residence at Lutheran Hillside |
3 | | Village; and |
4 | | WHEREAS, Gilbert Nolde was a lifelong learner and reader |
5 | | and enjoyed attending continuing education classes at Illinois |
6 | | Central College, Bradley University, the Osher Lifelong |
7 | | Learning Institute, and Björklunden at Lawrence University; he |
8 | | passed his passion for Russian literature and reading to his |
9 | | entire family; and |
10 | | WHEREAS, Gilbert Nolde's favorite things included family, |
11 | | family visits, and pets; he enjoyed winning at Bridge, |
12 | | Pinochle, and various other card and board games; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Gilbert Nolde is survived by his wife of 70 |
14 | | years, Jocyle; his daughters, Kendra (Jeff Lindgren), Susan |
15 | | (Jeffrey Goldberg), Judy (Ken Smith), and Mindy (John |
16 | | Knudsen); his grandchildren, Eric Lindgren, Jenny Goldberg, |
17 | | Matthew (Kookai) Goldberg, Sammi Goldberg (Anshum Garg), Jacob |
18 | | Moore, Kaitlyn Moore, Sara Knudsen, Emily Smith (Ray |
19 | | Gesiakowski), Ethan (Jessica) Smith, Allison Knudsen, Ben |
20 | | Knudsen, and Emma Knudsen; his great-grandchildren, Austin |
21 | | Goldberg, Jackson Goldberg, Adrian Smith, and Vivian Smith; |
22 | | and a great-granddaughter due in November; therefore, be it

1 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL |
2 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
3 | | Gilbert Carl Nolde and extend our sincere condolences to his |
4 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
5 | | further

6 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
7 | | presented to the family of Gilbert Nolde as an expression of |
8 | | our deepest sympathy.
