SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Wolford John Shane Sr., who passed away on July 26, 2023; and

WHEREAS, John Shane was born to Wolford M. Shane and Amelia Raimer Shane in Danville on June 17, 1942; he attended Danville High School and Bradley University, playing on the golf team at both; he married Susan Strand Shane in 1966; and

WHEREAS, After college, John Shane became the fourth generation of his family to work at the Wolford Cannon Hoecker Insurance Agency, where he became president in 1974; his agency was purchased by Old National Bank in 2001, and he retired in 2006; and

WHEREAS, John Shane cared deeply for his community and worked to make it a better place to live; he served as president of the Danville Area Community College for two separate terms, first chairman of the Provena/USMC Foundation, campaign chair and chairman of the board for United Way, and treasurer of Springhill Cemetery for over 20 years; he served as president of the Danville Country Club, president of the Danville Jaycees and Junior Achievement, and president of the Noon Rotary Club; he was a member of the Vermilion Healthcare Foundation for over 20 years and served as chairman for two years; and

WHEREAS, John Shane received the AMBUCS Danville First Citizen Award in 1999; he developed many friendships through his activities in the community, which he nurtured; he will be especially remembered for his kindness; and

WHEREAS, John Shane loved playing golf; he won the Danville Country Club championship seven times and the Inter-Club tournament three times; he competed in the Illinois State Senior Amateur Championship and the Illinois State Amateur Championship, making the cut a few times; and

WHEREAS, John Shane was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Susan Shane Herriott; and

WHEREAS, John Shane is survived by his wife; his children, Wolford John Shane Jr., Pamela (Dan) Shane German, and Steven Donald Shane; his grandchildren, Donald Keith Shane, Molly Elizabeth Shane, Lauren Amelia German, Michael Anthony German, Sylvie Lucille Shane, and John (Mack) McKee Shane; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Wolford John Shane Sr. and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of John Shane as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
