2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Wolford John Shane Sr., who passed | ||||||
4 | away on July 26, 2023; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, John Shane was born to Wolford M. Shane and | ||||||
6 | Amelia Raimer Shane in Danville on June 17, 1942; he attended | ||||||
7 | Danville High School and Bradley University, playing on the | ||||||
8 | golf team at both; he married Susan Strand Shane in 1966; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, After college, John Shane became the fourth | ||||||
10 | generation of his family to work at the Wolford Cannon Hoecker | ||||||
11 | Insurance Agency, where he became president in 1974; his | ||||||
12 | agency was purchased by Old National Bank in 2001, and he | ||||||
13 | retired in 2006; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, John Shane cared deeply for his community and | ||||||
15 | worked to make it a better place to live; he served as | ||||||
16 | president of the Danville Area Community College for two | ||||||
17 | separate terms, first chairman of the Provena/USMC Foundation, | ||||||
18 | campaign chair and chairman of the board for United Way, and | ||||||
19 | treasurer of Springhill Cemetery for over 20 years; he served | ||||||
20 | as president of the Danville Country Club, president of the | ||||||
21 | Danville Jaycees and Junior Achievement, and president of the | ||||||
22 | Noon Rotary Club; he was a member of the Vermilion Healthcare |

1 | Foundation for over 20 years and served as chairman for two | ||||||
2 | years; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, John Shane received the AMBUCS Danville First | ||||||
4 | Citizen Award in 1999; he developed many friendships through | ||||||
5 | his activities in the community, which he nurtured; he will be | ||||||
6 | especially remembered for his kindness; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, John Shane loved playing golf; he won the | ||||||
8 | Danville Country Club championship seven times and the | ||||||
9 | Inter-Club tournament three times; he competed in the Illinois | ||||||
10 | State Senior Amateur Championship and the Illinois State | ||||||
11 | Amateur Championship, making the cut a few times; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, John Shane was preceded in death by his parents | ||||||
13 | and his sister, Susan Shane Herriott; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, John Shane is survived by his wife; his children, | ||||||
15 | Wolford John Shane Jr., Pamela (Dan) Shane German, and Steven | ||||||
16 | Donald Shane; his grandchildren, Donald Keith Shane, Molly | ||||||
17 | Elizabeth Shane, Lauren Amelia German, Michael Anthony German, | ||||||
18 | Sylvie Lucille Shane, and John (Mack) McKee Shane; therefore, | ||||||
19 | be it

20 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
