SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to congratulate St. Francis High School, located in Wheaton, on being named a 2023 Exemplary High-Performing National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education; and

WHEREAS, Since 1982, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program annually recognizes public and private elementary, middle, and high schools based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups; and

WHEREAS, Opened in 1957, St. Francis High School is a Catholic, college preparatory learning community that promotes spiritual, academic, physical, social, and emotional development in its students; and

WHEREAS, St. Francis High School is one of only four high schools in Illinois and one of 353 schools nationwide to be named a Blue Ribbon School this year; and

WHEREAS, St. Francis High School is the only high school in Wheaton, public or private, and the only Catholic high school in the western suburbs to ever be named a Blue Ribbon School; it is also the only private high school to win the award this year; and

WHEREAS, St. Francis High School received this award thanks to the hard-working, dedicated teachers and support staff and their commitment to motivating students and ensuring all students achieve academic success; and

WHEREAS, St. Francis High School is currently led by Principal Raeann Huhn; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate St. Francis High School on being named a 2023 Exemplary High-Performing National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education, and we recognize its teachers and staff for their continued dedication and service to students; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to St. Francis High School as an expression of our esteem and respect.
