| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to | ||||||
| 3 | congratulate Natalie Wellen on the occasion of her retirement | ||||||
| 4 | as executive director of United Way South Central Illinois | ||||||
| 5 | (UWSCI); and | ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, As executive director of UWSCI, Natalie Wellen | ||||||
| 7 | oversaw the funding of 12 programs provided by 11 local | ||||||
| 8 | partner agencies and was responsible for communities across | ||||||
| 9 | nine counties, Washington, Marion, Jefferson, Franklin, | ||||||
| 10 | Hamilton, Wayne, White, Edwards, and Wabash; during the | ||||||
| 11 | COVID-19 pandemic, she organized several food distributions to | ||||||
| 12 | help others through difficult times; under her leadership, | ||||||
| 13 | UWSCI has assisted 11 hospitals, 14 food pantries, and 15 | ||||||
| 14 | local schools and provided utility assistance to six | ||||||
| 15 | communities; and | ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Natalie Wellen has belonged to a number of local | ||||||
| 17 | organizations, including the Mt. Vernon Rotary Club, where she | ||||||
| 18 | previously served as president, public relations director, and | ||||||
| 19 | newsletter chair, and is a member of the Paul Harris Society; | ||||||
| 20 | she has also served as a board member of Mt. Vernon Festivals, | ||||||
| 21 | the promotions chair of Mt. Vernon Downtown Development, and | ||||||
| 22 | the legislative director of the Mt. Vernon Business Women's | ||||||
| 23 | Club; she has been a member of Giving Tuesday of Jefferson | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | County and the community resource summit, and she was a | ||||||
| 2 | founding member of the Women's Leadership Council; and | ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, Natalie Wellen has been recognized for her work | ||||||
| 4 | and community involvement several times, including receiving | ||||||
| 5 | the Outstanding Working Woman of Illinois Award by the | ||||||
| 6 | Illinois Federation of Business Women's Clubs, Inc. and being | ||||||
| 7 | named the 2021 Citizen of Year by the Jefferson County Chamber | ||||||
| 8 | of Commerce; and | ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Throughout her career and community, Natalie | ||||||
| 10 | Wellen has continually proven herself to be a strong leader | ||||||
| 11 | who remains active in civic and community service programs, | ||||||
| 12 | selflessly gives her time to volunteer, and works extremely | ||||||
| 13 | hard to make Jefferson County a better place; and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Natalie Wellen will next assume the role of | ||||||
| 15 | executive director of Lifeboat Alliance Homeless Shelter in | ||||||
| 16 | Mt. Vernon; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 17 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
| 18 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate | ||||||
| 19 | Natalie Wellen on her retirement from United Way South Central | ||||||
| 20 | Illinois (UWSCI), and we wish her continued success in her | ||||||
| 21 | future endeavors; and be it further | ||||||
