2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
3 | | to learn of the death of Dr. James "Jim" Picek of Woodridge, |
4 | | who passed away on October 17, 2023; and |
5 | | WHEREAS, Jim Picek was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa; he was |
6 | | raised in a loving home interested in hard work, sports, and |
7 | | academics, especially mathematics and statistical analytics; |
8 | | and |
9 | | WHEREAS, Jim Picek became a professor of psychology and |
10 | | taught at three universities, Indiana University, the |
11 | | University of Wisconsin, and DePaul University; he later |
12 | | worked for Caterpillar Inc. at its corporate headquarters in |
13 | | Peoria for 25 years; and |
14 | | WHEREAS, Jim Picek retired early and pursued his life's |
15 | | passions, which included philanthropy, the culinary arts, |
16 | | travel, and living a healthy lifestyle; he also discovered he |
17 | | enjoyed running; and |
18 | | WHEREAS, Jim Picek will be remembered for his strength, |
19 | | courage, humility, kindness, and love of life; and |
20 | | WHEREAS, Jim Picek was preceded in death by his parents, |

6 | | Annalise, Alexander, Audrey, Sophia, Sylvia, Josephine, |
7 | | Nathaniel, and Edward; his sister, Mary Ann Kelly, and her |
8 | | family, Stephanie and Sam Lynn; his niece and nephew-in-law, |
9 | | Sydney and Drew Criminski; his in-laws, the Brown and Husted |
10 | | families; many cousins, nieces, and nephews; and his best |
11 | | friend, Niko; therefore, be it |
12 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL |
13 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
14 | | Dr. James "Jim" Picek and extend our sincere condolences to |
15 | | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
16 | | further |
17 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
18 | | presented to the family of Jim Picek as an expression of our |
