| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of David A. Holcomb of Milan, who passed |
| 4 | | away on November 16, 2023; and |
| 5 | | WHEREAS, David Holcomb was born to Harry and Esther |
| 6 | | (Formhals) Holcomb in Morris on January 8, 1936; he graduated |
| 7 | | from Morris High School in 1954; he earned his Bachelor of Arts |
| 8 | | and Master of Arts in Music Education from Illinois State |
| 9 | | University; he served in the U.S. Army, playing baritone horn |
| 10 | | in the 5th U.S. Army Band and in the U.S. Army Band in Germany |
| 11 | | for several years; he married Gail Emerson in Morton in 1969; |
| 12 | | and |
| 13 | | WHEREAS, David Holcomb taught music in the Rock Island |
| 14 | | Public Schools for 34 years; he also served as the band |
| 15 | | director of Ambrose Jazz for a time; and |
| 16 | | WHEREAS, David Holcomb was a well-known jazz pianist in |
| 17 | | the Quad Cities, playing in numerous venues throughout the |
| 18 | | area; he was known for his ability to entertain with both his |
| 19 | | music and his wit; and |
| 20 | | WHEREAS, David Holcomb was preceded in death by his |
| 21 | | parents and his siblings, Joel, Henrietta, Rachel, Ruth, and |
