| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of Chong Cha Barnes, who passed away on |
| 4 | | November 23, 2023; and |
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Chong Barnes was born in a small village in South |
| 6 | | Korea on July 3, 1950; she married James E. Barnes Sr. on May |
| 7 | | 24, 1971; she accompanied him on his military tours until they |
| 8 | | eventually settled in Illinois; she became a U.S. citizen in |
| 9 | | 2004; and |
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Chong Barnes was a faithful member of the Munster |
| 11 | | Korean Church for over 35 years; and |
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Chong Barnes was a strong mother and a sweet |
| 13 | | grandmother who loved her family; and |
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Chong Barnes was preceded in death by her husband |
| 15 | | of 34 years; her companion of 12 years, Tyree Miller Sr.; her |
| 16 | | son; her daughter; and her grandchild; and |
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Chong Barnes is survived by her children, Sharon |
| 18 | | Barnes, Shirley Rochelle, and James E. Barnes Jr.; her |
| 19 | | grandchildren, Quovadis, Jarvell, Lorenzo, Hasan, Jamesha, |
| 20 | | James III, and Hajji; and her special sisters/friends, Gina, |
