SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened 
3to learn of the death of Chong Cha Barnes, who passed away on 
4November 23, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Chong Barnes was born in a small village in South 
6Korea on July 3, 1950; she married James E. Barnes Sr. on May 
724, 1971; she accompanied him on his military tours until they 
8eventually settled in Illinois; she became a U.S. citizen in 
92004; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Chong Barnes was a faithful member of the Munster 
11Korean Church for over 35 years; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Chong Barnes was a strong mother and a sweet 
13grandmother who loved her family; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Chong Barnes was preceded in death by her husband 
15of 34 years; her companion of 12 years, Tyree Miller Sr.; her 
16son; her daughter; and her grandchild; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Chong Barnes is survived by her children, Sharon 
18Barnes, Shirley Rochelle, and James E. Barnes Jr.; her 
19grandchildren, Quovadis, Jarvell, Lorenzo, Hasan, Jamesha, 
20James III, and Hajji; and her special sisters/friends, Gina,

2    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL 
3ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
4Chong Cha Banres and extend our sincere condolences to her 
5family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it 
6further
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
8presented to the family of Chong Barnes as an expression of our 
9deepest sympathy.
