| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of Merle R. Durnell of East Moline, who |
| 4 | | passed away on December 16, 2023; and |
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Merle Durnell was born to Herbert and Elvyn |
| 6 | | Wainwright Durnell in Moline on January 26, 1930; he served in |
| 7 | | the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict; he married Frances |
| 8 | | Berg at St. Malachy's Catholic Church in Geneseo on June 20, |
| 9 | | 1953, and she preceded him in death on May 20, 2006; and |
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Merle Durnell retired from ALCOA in 1993 after |
| 11 | | more than 30 years of service; and |
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Merle Durnell enjoyed bowling and playing cards; |
| 13 | | and |
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Merle Durnell was devoted to his faith and his |
| 15 | | family; and |
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Merle Durnell was preceded in death by his |
| 17 | | parents; his son, Herbert "Herb" Durnell; and his sister, |
| 18 | | Melba Spavin; and |
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Merle Durnell is survived by his children, Jay |
