SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened 
3to learn of the death of Donna Lee Tammen of Charleston, 
4formerly of Gilman, who passed away on December 28, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Donna Tammen was born to Walter Ellsworth Pence 
6and Martha Leona (Gerdes) Pence on June 1, 1946; she graduated 
7from Gilman High School in 1964; she earned her cosmetology 
8license from Skokie Beauty School; she was previously married 
9to Jim Tammen; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Donna Tammen was a hairstylist for over six 
11decades, working first at her salon, Donna's Hair Creations, 
12and later at Sassy Scissors in Charleston; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Donna Tammen dedicated her time to charitable 
14events and volunteered her talents as a hairstylist at Adams 
15Funeral Chapel; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Donna Tammen was a devoted member of St. Charles 
17Borromeo Catholic Church; she was a member of Cosmetologists 
18Illinois EAST Central and the Illinois Torchbearer Lambda 
19#T04402 Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, where she also served as 
20vice president; she belonged to a group comprised of fellow 
21Gilman High School graduates called Girls of 64; and

1    WHEREAS, Donna Tammen loved her family, actively 
2supporting her sons in their sports endeavors and eagerly 
3spending time in her grandchildren's company; she recently 
4explored the Caribbean Islands on her inaugural cruise; she 
5was an avid collector of owls and a fan of the Chicago Cubs, 
6the Fighting Illini, and the Chicago Bears; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Donna Tammen was preceded in death by her parents 
8and her brothers, Terry Pence and Ronnie Pence; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Donna Tammen is survived by her sons, Brad 
10(Tammy) Tammen and Doug (Abby) Tammen; her grandchildren, 
11Adalida, Camden, Layla, Ava, and Emily; several nieces and 
12nephews; and numerous cousins; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL 
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
15Donna Lee Tammen and extend our sincere condolences to her 
16family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it 
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
19presented to the family of Donna Tammen as an expression of our 
20deepest sympathy.
