SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are sadden to learn of the death of Thomas Paul "Tom" Tomich, who passed away on January 26, 2024; and

WHEREAS, Tom Tomich was born to Joseph P. Tomich and Anne Gust Tomich in Peoria on September 14, 1946; he grew up in East Peoria and attended St. Monica's Catholic Church; he graduated from East Peoria Community High School in 1964; and

WHEREAS, Tom Tomich served in U.S. Marine Corps as part of the 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marines, Lima Company, now called Ripley's Raiders, from August 1965 to September 1967; for his service, he received numerous decorations, including a Combat Action Ribbon, a Vietnam Service Medal with Two Bronze Stars, a Presidential Unit Citation, a Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with 1960 Device, a Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation with Civil Action Color with Palm and Frame Ribbon Bar, and a Good Conduct Medal; and

WHEREAS, Tom Tomich worked at Caterpillar, Inc. before enlisting; upon his return to civilian life, he worked a variety of jobs and struggled with a number of issues triggered by his Vietnam experience; and

WHEREAS, Tom Tomich always maintained his wry sense of humor, despite his problems; he loved history, mysteries, bacon, vanilla shakes, rock music, and cool cars; and

WHEREAS, Tom Tomich was preceded in death by his parents; and

WHEREAS, Tom Tomich is survived by his sister, Theresa Tomich; his nephews, Andrew (Amy Cole) Metzroth and Ted Metzroth; his niece, Lucy Metzroth; his great-niece, Lavender Coleroth; and many cousins; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Thomas Paul "Tom" Tomich and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Tom Tomich as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
