2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Kristin E. Abbott, M.D. of Park Ridge, | ||||||
4 | formerly of Sylvania, Ohio, who passed away on January 21, | ||||||
5 | 2024; and | ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Dr. Abbott was born to Linda and Duane Abbott on | ||||||
7 | September 3, 1982; as a child, she played French horn in the | ||||||
8 | Toledo Youth Orchestra and skated with the Ann Arbor Hockettes | ||||||
9 | International Junior Synchronized Skating Team; she graduated | ||||||
10 | from Sylvania Southview High School in Sylvania, Ohio in 2001; | ||||||
11 | she received her Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry and Zoology | ||||||
12 | from Miami University in 2005; during her undergraduate | ||||||
13 | studies, she skated internationally with the Varsity | ||||||
14 | Synchronized Skating Team for four years; she earned her | ||||||
15 | Doctor of Medicine from the University of Toledo College of | ||||||
16 | Medicine in 2009; she completed her residency in family | ||||||
17 | medicine at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital and a | ||||||
18 | fellowship in sports medicine at the University of Minnesota; | ||||||
19 | she married Kevin Pansky in 2013; and | ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Dr. Abbott began working as a team physician for | ||||||
21 | Northwestern University Athletics/Sports Medicine in 2013, | ||||||
22 | providing medical services to multiple teams, including field | ||||||
23 | hockey, lacrosse, and women's basketball; she became the |

1 | medical director for Northwestern Medicine Student Health | ||||||
2 | Services in 2020; she also served as an assistant professor of | ||||||
3 | the Department of Family and Community Medicine through | ||||||
4 | Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine; during | ||||||
5 | her tenure, she profoundly and positively impacted the health | ||||||
6 | and well-being of thousands of students and student-athletes | ||||||
7 | at Northwestern University; and | ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Dr. Abbott was a physician in the national | ||||||
9 | network for Team USA figure skaters, serving as team physician | ||||||
10 | for Team USA figure skaters at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in | ||||||
11 | Beijing, China; she was appointed as a national technical | ||||||
12 | specialist for synchronized skating and served as vice chair | ||||||
13 | of the Technical Panel Committee on synchronized skating for | ||||||
14 | the U.S. Figure Skating Association; she also served as chair | ||||||
15 | and vice-chair of the Sports Science and Medicine Committee | ||||||
16 | for U.S. Figure Skating and was a participant in the Medical | ||||||
17 | Standards Working Group of the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic | ||||||
18 | Committee's National Governing Bodies (USOPC NGB); and | ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Dr. Abbott published and co-authored reviewed | ||||||
20 | articles related to figure skating and sports medicine; and | ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Dr. Abbott was a beloved mother, wife, daughter, | ||||||
22 | sister, mentor, and friend who enjoyed watercolor painting, | ||||||
23 | crocheting, and championing for mental health, diversity, and |

1 | equity inclusion; she will be remembered for her adventurous | ||||||
2 | spirit, her compassionate care towards patients, and her deep | ||||||
3 | and enduring love for all; and | ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Dr. Abbott is survived by her husband; her | ||||||
5 | children, Declan and Teagan; her parents; her grandmother, | ||||||
6 | Helen Soucek; her sister, Erin (Nick) DiLorenzo; her | ||||||
7 | parents-in-law, Mike Pansky and Maureen Pansky; her | ||||||
8 | brother-in-law, James Pansky; her sisters-in-law, Rita Pansky | ||||||
9 | and Jenna (Chris) Bryant, M.D.; and her nephew and nieces, | ||||||
10 | Mason, Harper, and Lily; therefore, be it | ||||||
11 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
12 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
13 | Kristin E. Abbott, M.D. and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
14 | her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
15 | further | ||||||
16 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
17 | presented to the family of Dr. Abbott as an expression of our | ||||||
18 | deepest sympathy. |
