SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened 
3to learn of the death of Stanley Arthur "Stan" Newell, who 
4passed away on January 11, 2024; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Stan Newell was born to Arthur Bunn Newell and 
6Muriel McGee Newell in Pekin on August 8, 1947; he married 
7Shari Lynette Peplow in October 1973; he received his 
8bachelor's degree from Austin Peay State University; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Stan Newell was drafted into the U.S. Army after 
10graduating high school; he was a POW in Vietnam from 1967 to 
111973; when he returned to the U.S., he was stationed in 
12Tennessee, Alabama, Hawaii, and then Alabama again; after a 
13full career serving his country, he retired from Maxwell Air 
14Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama as a Lieutenant Colonel in 
151992; he was awarded the Silver Star, the Legion of Merit, two 
16Bronze Stars, and a Purple Heart; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Stan Newell loved family card night and grilling 
18steaks for his family and friends; he enjoyed dove hunts, 
19skeet shooting, reading, and time spent with his 
20granddaughters; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Stan Newell was preceded in death by his parents

1and his wife; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Stan Newell is survived by his son, Chris 
3(Autumn) Newell; his granddaughters, Annabelle Grace Newell 
4and Allianne Grace Newell; three sisters; and many nieces, 
5nephews, cousins, and in-laws; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL 
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
8Stanley Arthur "Stan" Newell and extend our sincere 
9condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved 
10him; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
12presented to the family of Stan Newell as an expression of our 
13deepest sympathy.
