| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of Darrel Dean Randolph of Carbon Cliff, |
| 4 | | who passed away on February 22, 2024; and |
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Darrel Randolph was born to Raymond and Evelyn |
| 6 | | (Woodruff) Randolph in Columbus Junction, Iowa on June 25, |
| 7 | | 1933; he graduated from United Township High School in 1951, |
| 8 | | where he lettered in football, basketball, and track; as a |
| 9 | | sophomore, he competed in the running high jump at the 1949 |
| 10 | | State Track and Field Championship Meet; he served as a U.S. |
| 11 | | Army paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, |
| 12 | | Kentucky; he married Janice Hollister in Port Byron on |
| 13 | | September 28, 1953; and |
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Darrel Randolph was employed by John Deere |
| 15 | | Harvester Works, where he worked as a tool designer, a shop |
| 16 | | supervisor, a process planner, a methods engineer, and an |
| 17 | | engineering analyst before retiring in 1984; he began working |
| 18 | | as an industrial engineering technician for the Rock Island |
| 19 | | Arsenal in 1985, retiring as a lead industrial engineering |
| 20 | | technician in 1996; and |
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Darrel Randolph had many hobbies throughout his |
| 22 | | life, including fishing, square dancing, genealogy, |

| 1 | | photography, bird watching, and gardening; he loved music, and |
| 2 | | he never missed a Silvis Country Music Festival and often |
| 3 | | attended the Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Jazz Festival; he also |
| 4 | | loved spending time with family and friends; he enjoyed |
| 5 | | wintering in Florida with his wife, Janice, many times, |
| 6 | | exploring parks and nature preserves to photograph birds and |
| 7 | | wildlife; he also enjoyed meeting his high school classmates |
| 8 | | for breakfast twice a month; and |
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Darrel Randolph was known as a compassionate, |
| 10 | | patient, generous, and intellectual man who was always willing |
| 11 | | to help a neighbor, share produce from his garden or his wealth |
| 12 | | of knowledge, and offer sage advice; he will be remembered as a |
| 13 | | dedicated and loving husband, father, and grandfather; and |
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Darrel Randolph was preceded in death by his |
| 15 | | parents; his wife of 68 years, Janice; his daughter, Cathy |
| 16 | | Gamino; his daughter-in-law, Lisa (DeWulf) Randolph; his |
| 17 | | siblings, Richard Randolph and Helen Miller; his |
| 18 | | parents-in-law, Marguerite and Harold Hollister; his |
| 19 | | brothers-in-law, Terry Miller, Truman Langhofer, Jon "Jack" |
| 20 | | Hollister, and Harold French; and many other relatives and |
| 21 | | friends; and |
| 22 | | WHEREAS, Darrel Randolph is survived by his son-in-law, |
| 23 | | Rolando Gamino; his children, Gary Randolph and Susan (Al |

| 12 | | Darrel Dean Randolph and extend our sincere condolences to his |
| 13 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
