SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Darrel Dean Randolph of Carbon Cliff, who passed away on February 22, 2024; and

WHEREAS, Darrel Randolph was born to Raymond and Evelyn (Woodruff) Randolph in Columbus Junction, Iowa on June 25, 1933; he graduated from United Township High School in 1951, where he lettered in football, basketball, and track; as a sophomore, he competed in the running high jump at the 1949 State Track and Field Championship Meet; he served as a U.S. Army paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky; he married Janice Hollister in Port Byron on September 28, 1953; and

WHEREAS, Darrel Randolph was employed by John Deere Harvester Works, where he worked as a tool designer, a shop supervisor, a process planner, a methods engineer, and an engineering analyst before retiring in 1984; he began working as an industrial engineering technician for the Rock Island Arsenal in 1985, retiring as a lead industrial engineering technician in 1996; and

WHEREAS, Darrel Randolph had many hobbies throughout his life, including fishing, square dancing, genealogy, photography, bird watching, and gardening; he loved music, and he never missed a Silvis Country Music Festival and often attended the Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Jazz Festival; he also loved spending time with family and friends; he enjoyed wintering in Florida with his wife, Janice, many times, exploring parks and nature preserves to photograph birds and wildlife; he also enjoyed meeting his high school classmates for breakfast twice a month; and

WHEREAS, Darrel Randolph was known as a compassionate, patient, generous, and intellectual man who was always willing to help a neighbor, share produce from his garden or his wealth of knowledge, and offer sage advice; he will be remembered as a dedicated and loving husband, father, and grandfather; and

WHEREAS, Darrel Randolph was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 68 years, Janice; his daughter, Cathy Gamino; his daughter-in-law, Lisa (DeWulf) Randolph; his siblings, Richard Randolph and Helen Miller; his parents-in-law, Marguerite and Harold Hollister; his brothers-in-law, Terry Miller, Truman Langhofer, Jon "Jack" Hollister, and Harold French; and many other relatives and friends; and

WHEREAS, Darrel Randolph is survived by his son-in-law, Rolando Gamino; his children, Gary Randolph and Susan (Al Terronez) Randolph; his grandchildren, John Gamino, Dr. Aaron Gamino, Dustan Smith, Andrew (Sammi) DeWulf, Tyler Randolph, Eric (Becky) Terronez, and Brandon (Monica) Terronez; his great-grandchildren, Scarlett DeWulf, Cole Terronez, Paige Terronez, Reagan Terronez, Logan Terronez, Ronin Terronez, and Riley Terronez; his sisters-in-law, Dianne (Pokorny) Randolph, Kathy Kish, Nelda Langhofer, Shirley Hollister, and Marjorie French; and many nieces, nephews, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Darrel Dean Randolph and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Darrel Randolph as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
