SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 
3congratulate Clarence R. Wyatt, Ph.D. on the occasion of his 
4retirement as president of Monmouth College; and
 
5    WHEREAS, President Wyatt, a first-generation college 
6graduate, earned degrees from Centre College and the 
7University of Kentucky; and
 
8    WHEREAS, President Wyatt previously served as chief 
9planning officer and special assistant to the president at 
10Centre College, where he held the title of Pottinger 
11Distinguished Professorship of History; and
 
12    WHEREAS, President Wyatt has led Monmouth College through 
13tumultuous times and great achievements, including navigating 
14the institution through the COVID-19 pandemic, supporting 
15investments in academic programs and the expansion of new 
16majors, overseeing the complete renovation of the Stockdale 
17Student Center, and securing a $20 million commitment, the 
18largest in the college's history; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Through President Wyatt's guidance, the Light 
20This Candle Campaign has surpassed its goal of raising $75 
21million dollars for the expansion of scholarships, student

1financial aid, and academic programs; and
 
2    WHEREAS, President Wyatt has been instrumental in 
3strengthening student support and retention, offering a more 
4robust and advantageous Monmouth College experience; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Over the course of his career in higher 
6education, President Wyatt has been assisted by the support of 
7his wife, Lobie Stone, who has also had an influential role at 
8Monmouth College; and
 
9    WHEREAS, President Wyatt will conclude his tenth year as 
10president of Monmouth College after the completion of the 
112023-2024 school year; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL 
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate 
14Clarence R. Wyatt, Ph.D. on his retirement as president of 
15Monmouth College, and we wish him the best in his future 
16endeavors; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
18presented to President Wyatt as an expression of our esteem 
19and respect.
