SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened 
3to learn of the death of Rev. Thomas Phillips; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Rev. Phillips was born in Hinds County, 
5Mississippi to Hugh and Catherlean (Ward) Phillips on January 
616, 1937, the third of 13 children; he relocated to Chicago in 
7the mid-1960s; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Rev. Phillips worked with the American Precision 
9Casting Co. and later earned a position as a union steward; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Rev. Phillips was a member of the Chicago Chapter 
11of the NAACP and the Masonic Lodge; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Rev. Phillips never drifted from his upbringing 
13in the church and served in many capacities, from a deacon to 
14an associate minister; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Rev. Phillips was preceded in death by his 
16parents; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Rev. Phillips was a loyal father to 10 children; 
18a loving grandfather to 27 grandchildren; a fond 
19great-grandfather to 51 great-grandchildren; a caring

1great-great-grandfather to one great-great-grandchild; and a 
2protector of his siblings and family; therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL 
4ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
5Rev. Thomas Phillips and extend our sincere condolences to his 
6family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it 
7further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
9presented to the family of Rev. Phillips as an expression of 
10our deepest sympathy.
