SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to congratulate Janet Bernice Runkel Anderson on the occasion of her 100th birthday; and

WHEREAS, Janet Anderson was born on May 14, 1924; she attended school in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area; during her high school years, she worked at her father's grocery store, graduating from Menomonee Falls High School in 1942; she attended Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota and graduated Phi Beta Kappa; and

WHEREAS, Janet Anderson married Burton Anderson in August 1946, and they moved to Evanston, Illinois in order for her husband to complete dental school; they then moved to Northbrook in 1953, where they raised three daughters; that same year, she joined the Village Presbyterian Church; and

WHEREAS, Janet Anderson and her husband were both heavily involved in raising their daughters, and she assisted in her children's organizations, including Scouts and 4-H, as well as school activities; and

WHEREAS, Janet Anderson was an accomplished seamstress who also learned how to type transcripts in Braille for the blind, served on and volunteered for the Presbyterian Home Board, and enjoyed going out to dinner and dancing with her husband; and

WHEREAS, Janet Anderson has been a lifetime letter writer who has stayed in touch with her high school and college friends; she enjoys knitting, reading, doing crossword puzzles, playing cribbage, and visiting with friends; she has also enjoyed planning family vacations and traveling over the course of her life, and she has taken several domestic and international trips; she loves taking wonderful walks at the Chicago Botanic Gardens every chance she can find; and

WHEREAS, For the past 41 years, Janet Anderson has been an active member and loving sister of P.E.O. Chapter IW, an International Women's Philanthropic Educational Organization dedicated to bringing women increased opportunities for obtaining higher education; a wonderful cook always open to trying new foods, she has become known as a memorable hostess for serving her warmed, wrapped in foil, ready-to-eat ham and cheese sandwiches at many P.E.O. luncheons; and

WHEREAS, Janet Anderson has enjoyed residing at Covenant Living in Northbrook for almost six years, and she still enjoys going out to eat and attending the symphony and the theater; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Janet Bernice Runkel Anderson on her 100th birthday, and we wish her continued health and happiness; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Janet Anderson as an expression of our esteem and respect.
