SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Hormaz Minoocher Vania, who passed away on March 3, 2024; and

WHEREAS, Hormaz Vania, the son of Minoocher and Manijeh Vania, was born on December 24, 1934; he attended Coyne Electrical School in Chicago; he received a bachelor's degree in electrical and mechanical engineering from Indiana Institute of Technology in Fort Wayne, Indiana; he earned a Master of Science in Environmental Engineering from Southern Illinois University Carbondale; he also studied music at Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC) and Sangamon State University, known today as the University of Illinois Springfield (UIS); and

WHEREAS, Hormaz Vania founded Vania Engineering, Inc. in 1967, where he served as president and principal electrical, mechanical, and environmental professional engineer; his company undertook a number of noteworthy projects, including working on the Lincoln Tomb, the Lincoln-Herndon Law Offices, LLCC, and UIS; he also taught engineering at LLCC and UIS; and

WHEREAS, Hormaz Vania and his wife, Yasmin H. Vania, were founders and members of the Zoroastrian Association of Metropolitan Chicago, founding members of the World Zarathushti Chamber of Commerce (WZCC), and observers to the drafting of the Federation of Zoroastrian Associations of North America (FEZANA) constitution; they were also donors to the Anatomical Gift Association of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Hormaz Vania was a Master Mason of Tyrian Masonic Lodge #333, and he was the recipient of its 50 Years of Faithful Service Award; he was a founder of Springfield's Ethnic Festival and various Asian and Indian Associations; he was an honorary life member of the National Republican Party; and

WHEREAS, Hormaz Vania was a skilled accordion and piano player who delighted many with his passion for music; and

WHEREAS, Hormaz Vania was always cheerful and had an unending sense of humor; he will be remembered as a noble, gracious, brilliant, and caring person; and

WHEREAS, Hormaz Vania was preceded in death by his brother, Rustom Vania, and his sister-in-law, Gulzarine Vania; and

WHEREAS, Hormaz Vania is survived by his wife; his children, Natalie, Ivan, and Rustomji; his brother, Luke (Ginny) Vania; his sister, Kamal R. (Rohinton) Tengra; his son-in-law, Rusi D. Gandhi; his daughter-in-law, Crystal Vania; and his granddaughter, Asha R. Gandhi; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Hormaz Minoocher Vania and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Hormaz Vania as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
