2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
3 | | to learn of the death of Ronald Edward "Ron" Mitchell of |
4 | | Crainville, who passed away on April 15, 2024; and |
5 | | WHEREAS, Ron Mitchell was born in Carbondale to Edward |
6 | | Gordon and Bernice E. (Brewer) Mitchell on August 1, 1946; he |
7 | | served in the U.S. National Guard; he married Patricia Ann |
8 | | Jones in Crainville on June 20, 2009; and |
9 | | WHEREAS, Ron Mitchell was a salesman for Western & |
10 | | Southern Insurance in Carbondale for 15 years; he had also |
11 | | worked at Tesa Tape for over 30 years; and |
12 | | WHEREAS, Ron Mitchell was serving as the mayor of |
13 | | Crainville for his fourth consecutive term at the time of his |
14 | | passing; he also served as president of the Crosswalk |
15 | | Community Action Board; and |
16 | | WHEREAS, Ron Mitchell had a passion for music and was a |
17 | | talented guitar and piano player; there was nothing more |
18 | | joyful to him than time with his family; and |
19 | | WHEREAS, Ron Mitchell was preceded in death by his parents |
20 | | and his brothers, Larry Steven and Darrell "Whitey" Mitchell; |

3 | | Mitchell; his daughters, Lorie (Matthew) Barnett and Jeannie |

5 | | Weathers, Michelle Weathers, and Kimberly Weathers; his |
6 | | grandchildren, Bryce Collins, Ronnie Barnett, Daniel Barnett, |
7 | | Zoey Brantley, Phoenix Hickam, and Zanen Weathers; his |
8 | | sisters, Joyce (Ed) Fear and Darla (John) Shelby; his |
9 | | brothers, Eric Mitchell, Randy (Susie) Mitchell, and Denny |
10 | | (Effie) Mitchell; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and |
11 | | friends; therefore, be it |
12 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL |
13 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
14 | | Ronald Edward "Ron" Mitchell and extend our sincere |
15 | | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved |
16 | | him; and be it further |
17 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
18 | | presented to the family of Ron Mitchell as an expression of our |
19 | | deepest sympathy. |
