| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
| 3 | to learn of the death of Gary GaMaille Barnes of Oak Park, who | ||||||
| 4 | passed away on March 14, 2024 at the age of 87; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Gary Barnes was born to CW Barnes and Roby | ||||||
| 6 | Gregory Barnes in Monticello on November 23, 1936; he | ||||||
| 7 | graduated from Monticello High School, where he was notably | ||||||
| 8 | active in athletics and music; and | ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Gary Barnes received a Bachelor of Arts in | ||||||
| 10 | philosophy from DePauw University in 1958, where he was a | ||||||
| 11 | member of the basketball team, and earned a master's degree in | ||||||
| 12 | divinity and social work from Yale University in 1962; and | ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Gary Barnes was principled and steadfast in his | ||||||
| 14 | convictions, particularly around the subject of technology; he | ||||||
| 15 | spent ten years consolidating his ideas into a hand-written | ||||||
| 16 | book, which was, unfortunately, never published; and | ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Gary Barnes spent his life appreciating fine | ||||||
| 18 | craft; he lovingly worked on his home on Humphrey Avenue, | ||||||
| 19 | meticulously restored antiques, and greatly enjoyed | ||||||
| 20 | woodworking; and | ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, Gary Barnes spent his leisure time listening to | ||||||
| 2 | jazz and staying active; he was an outdoorsman who loved to | ||||||
| 3 | camp and hike, and he enjoyed playing team and individual | ||||||
| 4 | sports such as volleyball and tennis; he remained deeply | ||||||
| 5 | engaged in local sports and politics, was an active community | ||||||
| 6 | member in Oak Park, and a loyal fan of Illinois sports teams; | ||||||
| 7 | and | ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Gary Barnes will be remembered for his | ||||||
| 9 | stubbornness, his passion, and his humor; and | ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Gary Barnes was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
| 11 | and | ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Gary Barnes is survived by his daughter, Rachel | ||||||
| 13 | Barnes Pledger; his grandchildren, Scott Thomas Pledger and | ||||||
| 14 | Rebecca Anne Pledger; and his brother, Gregory (Yoko) Barnes; | ||||||
| 15 | therefore, be it | ||||||
| 16 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
| 17 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 18 | Gary GaMaille Barnes and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
| 19 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||

| 21 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
